1) The icons arent real selfmade. Some of them you can get free in the www, others i have extracted and modified from other apps. 2) MyPhoneExplorer goes never OpenSource. The risk is too hight that other companies earn money with my hard work. If you have special questions then ask and i can give you a part of the sourcecode.
to give you, dear FJ, something to read, which "brings you forward":
Zitat:

Version 1.3.3 works with wine, the later releases have problems cause wine cannot handle the library SPort.dll which MyPhoneExplorer uses. I meant in the above post that there are no linux-developers which want to realize something like MPE for Linux. FMA is Delphi - right. But where is the problem ? Every advandged developer is at least able to read and understand source from other languages.

If you need the icons from MPE just load the file IconLib.dll into a resource-extractor (for private use)

1) Could you point me at your web sources please?
2) I understand, I have no particular questions, it was just curiosity.
Cheers

I know the pros and contras.
Well, in your previous message, you didn't seem to...You seemed to think people would make money out of your hard time...
FJ hat Folgendes geschrieben:
why i should make it open-source?
Why shouldn't you? I mean, you don't sell your program, what you get from keeping up with MPE is not money, but more 1)personal amusement in bringing smart stuff to others 2)credits from people who use it. Am I not right? We all know how good is your hardwork, opening the code doesn't change anything to this. It just enables people to bring their own skills and ideas to your work and make it even better.

There are other projects with more developers - there makes open-source more sence.
Yee there are, and I took a slight look at some of them, and I have to tell you : your work is the best of all. Sorry pal

My offer for everybody is to help if help is needed (also on programming-knowledge).
Well ok
I need help. I trying to make the last MPE release work on my linux box (wine enabled if necessary)

But up to yet there is no linux-user which want to make a project like this.
I'd be happy to provide such a program for linux, but I have not got 1)time 2)skills 3)knowledge about SE phones & protocols. There are several topics on this board about linux support for MPE, which clearly prooves there IS some interest in getting MPE services available on Linux.
Maybe some linux people would be interested to port MPE to Linux, but as you know, this is not nearly as a complicated task as to start up, from scratch, a new project, reverse engineer the SE protocol, ... It might take years.
Why start over again everything? You already did a brilliant job! No point in reinventing something which already works.
I was just trying to make you understand that would be a way to help even MORE people. Nevermind
Farewell. I suppose I'll have to keep up using my damn office windows computer to use MPE...
cheers
ps: FMA is Delphi

Second thing: FMA is open-source - where is the linux-version of FMA ?

Please, please, please, FJ, if this is what makes you anxious about making MyPhoneExplorer OpenSource, please read what I am about to say :
If you released MyPhoneExplorer as free software by opening your code under
GPL licence (v2)
for instance, NO company would be allowed to use it to make money of it. Instead, any commercial program using bits of MPE would have to be opened too, the companies would have to ask your permission to use parts of MPE, and you would be credited if ever you give permission! I fully understand you not wanting to get your work stolen, I used to be a developer myself.
If your will is to help the SE phoneuser community (which I am pretty sure is the case, seeing how quickly you answer to questions on this board) this IS THE BEST thing to do. You can't imagine how much people would be greatful to you, and you would surely get tremendous help and new ideas from developers all around the world, MPE would get even better as it is now, full Linux version would get done within weeks, debugging would be vastly enhanced, and.. and... well I can't really think about all the advantages of releasing MPE as a community project, versus keeping it as a private project.
Obviously, you'd still be the master chief.
Please, at least give it a second thought.
(Not everyone on planet Earth uses Windows...)

Loving your app - I've defected from using FMA!!
As a developer I'm keen to learn so I have two cheeky questions:
1) Where did you get the application icons from?
2) Have you/will you be releasing the source? I'm a VB developer and would love to have a look 'under the hood'
Cheers
