Now I'm very happy and there is one more reason to use linux.
I'd be interested to know if you get any problems with MyPhoneExplorer and Wine. Mine is somewhat unstable, and sometimes crashes when I quit. It's perfectly usable, just prone to crashing at times.

I've installed MPE (ubuntu 12.04; Dell D630) and it seems to
work, but connecting my HTC Desire failed. If I connect the phone at usb port with "Nur laden" (or any other option) there is no /dev/ttyacm* , so the link to com1 goes to nirvana ;-)
The system can identify the phone, lsusb --> "Bus 002 ...
