Other than bringing FJ's attention to this topic and to the various causes that we've identified, especially the trailing whitespace (which is a breeze to fix), I can't think of any.

Like I said in an earlier post, I have written a small Java program to deal with this issue ...

Short answer: the problem is with Android 4.4. Now I'm on Android 5.0.1 on a Galaxy S4 and I no longer have that problem.

@wrdennig: In version 1.8.6, I can see an option called "Folder for Photo-sync" in the Settings window, in the "Advanced 2" category.
Maybe you should try changing that value? There's a small button on the right side of the text field that contains the name. The button has three dots ("...") on it ...
