I'm preparing to buy a new phone (either 4.4 or 4.3). Are there any phones I should avoid since I'll still need to install and use MPE?

Replacement phone can't connect
I had a Samsung SCH-I405. It died.
Verizon gave me a replacement (same phone, Samsung SCH-I405). Now I can't connect, using MyPhoneExplorer, via USB or WiFi.
I have 1.8.4 on my WinXP computer. I have 1.0.23 on my phone.
USB Debugging is turned ON.

Can't connect after Update
Everything has been working perfectly. Then I updated MyPhoneExplorer on my Android. Now it won't connect to my computer (I've always used wireless). How can I diagnose this? Post the connection log?
