A side effect of using ...

OK, I fixed it by biting the bullet and doing a complete uninstall including wiping the data files -- I'd hoped to be able to preserve them.

However, I had a sneaking suspicion that maybe a corruption of some sort in the data files was causing the program to crash on load -- that's not very well ...

thanks Roncam. A series of Windows 8 updates had also come down around that time, but if they affected the app, they would have affected anyone running 8.1. I suppose safemode is an option, if you suspect malware or similar, although the events don't suggest malware, nor did I go anywhere unusual ...

I've been using MPE every day, got home tonight, it no longer starts up -- it displays the splash screen, momentarily shows an icon in the system tray, then nothing. You can see icon in the system tray, but as soon as you mouse over it, it disappears.

You can normally enter a new line in the window "New message". it should not send the message with a single "Enter". I just tried it and it works. Please update to the current beta so we have bothe the same state for testing: m

yes, just the right-click 'New Message' option and simple textbox, where you can send an SMS from your PC via your phone -- you get a textbox and an address lookup button ...

I never saw this issue. Are you using any SMS-Replacement-Apps on the phone ? Handcent, Go SMS,... ?

No, I don't think so, just that native one. And the problem is only recent.

I wonder if there is some sort of SMS 'counter' that is out of sync by one or something?

Why don't you use the icon in system tray? (Right click...) There you would have all options for SMS you looking for.

Also, is it possible to force a carriage return into the SMS composition text box? Shift-Enter, Ctrl-Enter and Alt-Enter either send the SMS or don't do anything. Implement something like the Facebook tick to toggle status of Enter key, or don't attach Enter key to Send button?
