Backup Wizard - what are the File/App options

In the backup wizard in the window just before creating a BU I see two options, Files and Applications. Originally I though this was referencing my phone but when I check either box it defaulted to show things from my PC.
Now that I've actually created a BU when I again run the BU function I do NOT see this window.

Is it possible to BU my entire phone (apps, settings and whatever). Recently being very new to the Android phone I goofed and the best option was to reset the phone. This meant I lost all of my apps (well over 100), all of my settings, etc. It took me several hours to get back to a point where I was close to what I had prior to the reset. I don't want to go through this hell again.

Again: What do you mean with "BU" ?

Its technically not possible to read/write all settings and application data for external apps. The most complete backup can be done with "Titanium Backup", but for this you have to root your phone
