SMS Messages Gone

I was using MPE to send a text message. I did what I have done 100s of times before: in conversations clicked the message I wanted to reply to, wrote the message, and sent it. The conversations window refreshed and lo and behold all that is visible is the message I have just sent no other messages at all. I stopped and started MPE, the phone and the PC but to no avail. The message window is only showing the messages I have sent from that point on; the messages are in the phone however. How do I resolve this as it's a show stopper as I use SMS 100s of times in a day and is the primary reason I use MPE?

I've rerun a sync on messages and they have all downloaded form the phone again and everything is back to normal. However it is worrying that MPE seems to have suddenly deleted all the messages in the archive?
