MPE tries to create additional user upon connecting

When connecting my phone with PC (USB cable), MPE starts to create a new user, next to the existing one. This gives confusion with synchronising.

MPE is 1.8.7; phone is Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
The problem occurs on my home PC as well as at work.
I reinstalled the Samsung USB drivers on one PC, but this did not help.

Does anybody know a solution?

As the problem with the user account persisted, I found a solution by deleting all accounts and creating a new one which I loaded with contents from the backup. Until now this works fine.

An older problem is still there: when I run auto sync for the first time after connecting the USB cable, the sync gets blocked at the moment that windows explorer discovers the phone. This makes MPE "hang" for a few minutes before it stops retrying. For now I found a workaround by disabling the auto-connect, and conneting MPE manually after window explorer found the phone.

Does anybody know a more elegant solution?

The problem with the different user account in MPE came back again!

This brings the disadvantage that all settings in MPE have to be set again - especially the settings of the outlook agenda take a couple of minutes.
Next to that, it becomes confusing which of the 2 accounts has the latest sync of data.

If anyone knows a solution, it will be highly appreciated.
