1.8.7 - SMS bug

Hi.
After update PC App to 1.8.7 there is found a bug - letter "я" in SMS is now missed.

When I'm downgraded it to 1.8.6 and downloaded SMS again, it returned back as should.

The same problem for Russian language. We are not alone that problem according posts in other forums.

The same problem here with Cyrillic (Ukrainian, Russian) Messages corruption - letter "я" is lost.
Please help.

Just tried the behaviour and i had no problem to view this character when downloaded from mobile. Besides this there were no changes in sms-section in the last version

The problem with disappearing of russian letter "Я" in version 1.8.7 is still actual.

I have tried to reproduce the issue myself and looked deeper into that.
The following appears to be the case for my setup.

I have Windows 10 Pro 64 bit En installed with the Russian system locale.
MyPhoneExplorer version is 1.8.7.
Phone HTC Desire 600 dual sim synchronized with PC.

While synchronizing SMS messages capital 'Я' (typed in Russian on the sending phone) transferred to the MyPhoneExplorer and shown in the main window Messages / Conversations on the right as well as after xxx on the message on the right - in the message properties pop up window. Therefore no problem with capital 'Я' works as expected.

On the other hand, small letter 'я' disappears and is not shown in the main window and not shown in the pop up window.

The SMS message contains both small letter 'я' and capital 'Я', typed in Russian on the sending phone, received on the receiving phone and then transferred to the PC application.

I have sent several SMS messages from one phone to another.

At this point, I found if I use comma in the message, then small letters 'я' disappear in the application. I used exclamation mark and it did not result in disappearing small letters 'я', I did not test all other punctuation marks.

The message will all small letters 'я' is registered in the debug.txt file.
Examples below are with stripped phone number in the UTF-8 encoding.
I did not find an option to attach the text file, therefore the rows with ShowBalloontip: New message from: might not be showing correctly as they are encoded differently (ANSI). Below I re-encoded the text in ANSI format to UTF-8 to show what is in there.

What do you think might be the reason for such a behavior?

Is there anything I can do to help you to identify the reason for this behavior and fix the issue?

PS: After preview all Russian characters in ANSI are shown as "&#65533", therefore do not bother getting any information from question marks in the black rhombus...

Bug has been fixed in the MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.8 recent build (2017-01-06).

I confirm that MyPhoneExplorer correctly downloads from the phone and displays small letter 'я' in SMS.

Hello FJ,

Unfortunately the problem is not fixed for Contacts, Tasks and Events. It started from version 1.8.7 and is still actual in version 1.8.11.

When you try to sync Contacts, Tasks and/or Events in all the entries, containing Russian letter “я” (44F - in Windows-1251; FF – in ASCII), the letter is missed (usually on one side only – Thunderbird or phone), and MyPhoneExplorer can suggest to use damaged entries. That always happens if Russian language is selected as “Language for non-Unicode programs” in Windows Region and Language options. If you change it to e.g. English, the problem disappears, but in this case all the Russian letters of entries in MyPhoneExplorer are shown as “?”. Sync nevertheless goes well.
