Windows 7. When I launch MPE 1.8.7, the program opens briefly and then immediately closes. I have used MPE for quite a while without problems. I have tried reinstalling - no luck. Have tried installing earlier versions - no luck. Have tried disabling antivirus - no luck. I guess there's something about my environment that causes MPE to immediately close after launching. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have been delighted with V1.8.0.6 for a long time & it always worked without any problems - I use the portable version.

Suddenly it began just opening then closing on its own very soon after.
I found the debug.txt file and it has not been written to since October 19, 2016 - so I renamed it to see if it would be replaced...
MPE opened, started to populate the device list, then closed itself.
No new debug.txt was created.

So - I got the latest version from your site and did a separate portable install at a different location - and it does the same thing right from the very 1st start - as soon as it connects to the phone.
I tried renaming the file 'general.ini' and the phone's data - and it re-opens, but ONLY until the phone is connected, than it closes again.
If I then delete the file 'general.ini' and the phone's data again it then re-opens, but with the same results.

Ummm, the phone app has just been updated, as has the PC client so I'm not sure where your 'abandoned' comes from.

As to the OP have you tried a Windows reinstall? A bit drastic but this usually needs to be done at irregular intervals. Sometimes the best solution is just to 'start again' and not know what the problem was, just that it's fixed.

When there are problems & weeks pass with no response from the dev, that usually shows something not so good has or is happening...

NEVER:

Since working as a full-time PC tech for 20+ years I have found MANY other ways to solve problems NOT involving absurd amounts of re-doing huge amounts of useless work via brute force.
I -only- seek help when I am unable to isolate & solve problems on my own - as I did here.

Perhaps, for those lacking in experience:

"Sometimes the best solution is just to 'start again' and not know what the problem was, just that it's fixed."

Accepting such brute force measures brings some comfort...but not here.
If/when I need to do testing which resembles what you suggest - I can quickly & easily replace my OS from a saved disk image anytime I desire to - but this set of actions & choices does not help in learning what has broken something in a totally different iteration.
