Groups and Lists and Thunderbird

In Thunderbird I have created "Lists" where, for example I have 7 names from my contacts.
MPE doesn't seem to do anything with the Lists.

In MPE, when I select a contact there is a button that is labeled "Group" and when I click on it I get a drop-down box with one name. I can check a box if I want that contact to be in the group. Or I can add another group. But what happens to the information? My contacts on the phone don't seem to indicate any of my contacts as belonging to the group?

I guess I am asking if there is a way I can group a list of contacts and then Text them or Email them?

There has never been any answer to this post... However I have the same problem, does anybody know a solution?
