Personally, I prefer to have these mixed as they are now - i.e., not separated. That makes it easier for me to follow a conversation.

So there are different opinions on this point.
So let's kindly ask FJ to make this feature user-selectable (by some checkbox in settings dialog) and everybody will be happy ; )

Where is the problem with making seperate folders ? one for Inbox and one for Outbox. The requested feature is NOT needed.

Be able to associate a COM port with every user, as I have an user for each phone, and every time I switch I have to go to the setting to change the COM port to the one associated with the mobie (as each of my mobiles use a different COM port).

Thank You

Actually there is a need for different view modes including:
- all messages (sent/received)
- sent messages
- received messages
and more.

The search function would be nice too.

More features, bug report.

In the archive view mode there are: Archive and Auto-archieved folders and THAT is NOT NEEDED feature (or at least it should be optional). All the user wants is just to have a complete archive (no matter how it was made, but sure there can be a tag/flag for that thing...)

Another confusing thing is that there is an option to copy/move to SUBFOLDER which in fact is just a top-level folder (there is no way to create subfolders so why call them subfolders).

More confusing is the lack of search function. What's the use of archived messages when they are non searchable? (at least I don't see any SEARCH button, popup option etc.)

I can see inconsistency in top level GUI logic. Once the folded section is being clicked it makes things visible in the right window, BUT... :
- ORGANIZER doesn't remember which subsection was selected and always reverts to Calendar.
- FILES doesn't remember last selection and always shows fresh view (although the tree is unfolded).
- OTHER doesn't remember anything, xxx it without section selection does nothing.

You already can search EVERY List by using CTRL+F - isn't this a common standard ?

If you thing about Inbox/Outbox,Archive-Folders then the folders in the archive are SUBFOLDERS

Explanation

Beitrag von Nisses »

FJ hat geschrieben:You already can search EVERY List by using CTRL+F - isn't this a common standard ?
Yes, but the "Search" item in the menu is the standard too. People learn hotkeys from menu, help files or configuration pages. Moreover every hotkey should be configurable (it has two advantages: self documentation and flexibility).
FJ hat geschrieben: If you thing about Inbox/Outbox,Archive-Folders then the folders in the archive are SUBFOLDERS
No. I'm thinking of the SAME LEVEL view mode as INBOX and SENT ITEMS in the MESSAGES but showing BOTH kinds of messages - let's call it INBOX/OUTBOX or ALL ITEMS.

Why the browsing of phone messages differs so much from browsing the archive?

Phone messages view modes:
- inbox
- drafts
- sent items
- saved items

Archived messages view modes:
- one view showing all messages within the archive

The ability to create SUBFOLDERS is needed but view modes are far more usable. I don't have any SUBFOLDERS by default and there are no INBOX or OUTBOX SUBFOLDERS by default - am I forgeting something? The idea of SUBFOLDERS is to group messages by topic or contact groups. But it is still needed to have the ability to set view mode like SENT and RECEIVED (like in MESSAGES).

Menu-Extras-Current list-Search

The archive should be used for archiving messages - and not to store every little message there. I still don't understand why its so hard to create a subfolder called "Inbox"

Yes, it should be used for archiving purposes.

It is not hard to create INBOX subfolder. It is hard to move archived messages there every time they are being archived.

Why ? Click the Copy-Archive-Button with the right mousebutton and you'll be able to choose the destination directly.

GUI / Archive

FJ hat geschrieben:Why ? Click the Copy-Archive-Button with the right mousebutton and you'll be able to choose the destination directly.
Exactly...
Anyway this Right Mouse Button thing creates another GUI logic inconsistency - the lack of destination selection in popup menu. Besides that: where's the hint to use RMB?

Moreover it would be wise to give the user option just "to move received and sent items into archive proper folders". Doing things manually takes time. It was requested several times (move option).

That's what every software is written for - to makes things easier, more automatically, less time consuming.

I hope my criticism is constructive.

Moving the messages instead of copying will be avaiable in the next update.

I don't want to make automatic creating of subfolders - you know it. But just for interest - how would you make it ? Its not possible to make subfolders in the subfolders. Would you make options for "Rules" ?

It shouldn't be made INSTEAD but ADDITIONALLY. Leaving message inside phone memory while having it already archived makes sense.
FJ hat geschrieben:I don't want to make automatic creating of subfolders - you know it. But just for interest - how would you make it ? Its not possible to make subfolders in the subfolders. Would you make options for "Rules" ?
I've never purposed automatic creation of subfolders. Furthermore I criticized automatic creation of "auto archived" - and YES, unfortunately you did make automatic creation of subfolder ("auto archived" is the example).

I would make ARCHIVE the same gui level as MESSAGES with the same view modes (with the existing addition of subfolders feature and setting date for sent messages feature) to separate phone messages from the archive at the top level GUI and to keep view modes naming simple - "sent items" instead of "archived sent items" etc.

OR (which is more reasonable and flexible)

You could leave it the way it is by just adding (instead of "archive (computer)") additional view modes "archived sent items", "archived received items", "all items" and more importantly "all sent items" and "all received items" view modes (so that you can see phone messages and archived messages together on the list. I think the GUI might require a little rearrangement for that (the list of view modes might be too long).

THE RULES...
That's a tough subject. Rules are more complicated than a few simple view modes. Rules system is reasonable and could be added later to automate archiving of messages into proper folders (ie. group messages by topic and time frame and contact group).

What about... configurable view modes? :)

OK, but the GUI-changes are hard to realize if i make it with good look&feel.

What about a simple filter-row on top of the messagelist ?[Dropdown:Incoming,Outgoing,All items] Searchtext:[ ] Daterange[] []

Ehm, maybe some 'error reports' instead of a number :) I got that 'your phone is too full to send another sms'-number :)

Would be easy to make your computer just say the sentence :p

I like your tool ... ALOT, damn, if I have to send an sms it's waay faster with the keyboard of my portable

I realize this. It should be kept simple, nice and well-thought-out.

My suggestion is to let the user choose the source of messages from the left folding menu (all / phone / computer) and let him precise which messages he wants to see (view mode) by using controls at the right panel (check boxes for simple conditions (received / sent / draft / saved) and dropdown menu (with SIMPLE MODE by default and other CUSTOM MODES (ie. ability to add custom view mode to the dropdown menu by using rules is inevitable). Custom modes (rules) could be defined in the main options.
