1.7.2: abnormal cache path created, and filtering problems

First of all many thanks to the Author for the excellent programm!

And once such a long-waited (by beb=) contacts filtering function has been introduced, 1.7.2 replaced previous 1.7.1 on my PC instantly.

Alas,
what has occured then (under Windows XP SP3):
a) after very first start 1.7.2 created path to the database/cache visible as 266 characters long:
d:\123\4567890\dial\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer\MyPhoneExplorer\Sony Ericsson K750 [012345678901234]\Cache\Ïàìÿòü òåëåôîíà\Èçîáðàæåíèÿ

; normal/initial database path was: d:\123\4567890\dial
; "Ïàìÿòü òåëåôîíà\Èçîáðàæåíèÿ" = (localised version of) "Phone Storage\Images"

That path (and content) became inaccessible by OS. The only solution to fix this I've found formatting the drive (with funny option backup-restore 100GB data =)

NB:
After all I did reinstall MPE 1.7.2 more than 20 times and bug was never reproduced any more
Meanwhile 1.7.1 performed nothing like this.

b) Filtering function did (and does) not work on my PC at all, regardless of language settings.
Only CPU load jumps from 0 to about 20%

Have you tried to change the default path of the Cache?
Menu> File> Option > Advance 2?

Also sometime it's memory card problem.

1. As you can see - my database path "d:\123\4567890\dial" is not default.
Also as I guess - there are no way to change Cache path itself via settings. It looks like to be fixed substructure relative to database path:
%DataBasePath%\MyPhoneExplorer\%PhoneID%\Cache
2. Not any memory problems discovered in my PC yet =)

a) i have never seen this before and i did not make any changes in the datamanagement in v1.7.2. Maybe it had something to do with the special-characters but i'm really not sure. What a pity that you cannot reproduce it

b) it does not work in all 3 panes (phonebook, organizer, sms) ? How many items you have saved ? Does it work with normal latin characters ?

Filtering does not work at all, regardless of latin or cyrillic, >300 items in phone or <10 items in SIM entry...
When I click into filter field just feel certain lag (represented by CPU load jump in my 1st message). Next I type anything in the field and nothing happens.

* organizer:
I cannot even see the corresponding filter entry!

* sms:
Works perfect, both with latin and cyrillic, and with any filter field

Organizerfilter is only visible in the listview. You can use the toolbarbutton to change the view.

So the CPU-Load jumps up even before you type letters in it and directly after you clicked the focus into the fltertextfield ?

Yes, it jumps up directly after click into the filter field. Then it returns to normal level right after "Filter" caption appeared in the field.

Organizerfilter is only visible in the listview. You can use the toolbarbutton to change the view.

Thank you. Now it's visible. Only behaves the same way as for Contacts.

Added 2009-03-12:
Have installed MyPhoneExplorer 1.7.2 on another two PCs under Windows XP SP3.
The same thing occured. Filtering in Contacts and Organizer is not functional. With the same symptoms.

Please try it with the current beta. I cannot reproduce it on XP SP2 (and i will NEVER install SP3 -> it just makes many problems).

The filterfield in the contactsview looks misplaced, thats normal cause i want to test it. Please check how the filter works in the beta for Contacts AND for organizer.

FJ: Filter caption starts blinking and Contacts screen goes diagonally shaded after click in filterfield, then app crashes.

The same in Organizer.

p.s. OK, at least the good news - field has moved in-line with columns captions, as you expected, I guess =)

Please tell me the version of the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\comctl32.dll on your PC.

It is not so easy to find too many PCs under Windows XP SP2 by now and over here. But I did. Two =)
They have different versions of comctl32.dll:

I had installed MPE 1.7.2 on both of them.
Result: ContactFilter and OrginizeFilter do not work, exactly as described above for SP3.
Then beta update was installed on both of them.
Result: MPE crashed, exactly as described above for SP3.

p.s. Maybe it relies somehow on localized Windows XP version (all PCs run under official genuine Russian Windows)

Its really strange:
- there is no diffrence in the code between SMS-Filter and Contacts/Organizerfilter
- i publiced this feature also in the news so i think there are alot of people which tried it - no bugreports. And you can reproduce it on 3 PC's

I reproduced it on 5 PCs (3 XP SP3 + 2 XP SP2), with two different phones, even I nulled my full of cyrillic phonebook and input only latins. Nothing helped.

Above mentioned Microsoft patch did not help too =(

Do you have ICQ or Skype ? Can you contact me on monday throught chat so that we can do more tests in less time ? I think this bug needs try&error fixing and for this it would be better to have fast communications.

Only I can do this in the evening time, approx. since 6-7 p.m. in your timezone (7-8 p.m. in mine GMT+2). Is it suitable?
And only one (my home) PC will be accessible.

But I still have the same problem - filtering does not work at all in Contacts view.

I have WinXP Professional+ SP3 (polish language version) and use MyPhoneExplorer in polish language.

Could you post here the solution that worked for you?
