BUG: Thunderbird calendar cant sync with system extension
BUG: Thunderbird calendar cant sync with system extension
Hello,
as I mentioned in this thread, I had a problem when I could not select thunderbird calendar for synchronization in MPE settings. Now I have found the cause - the calendar extension in thunderbird was installed as a system wide extension (in /Program files/Mozilla Thunderbird/extensions). When I move calendar extension to my thunderbird profile, synchronization works again.
But it is quite important for me to have the extension installed system-wide (due to profile sharing with dual boot Linux).
Can you, please, fix this bug?
Thank you again for this excellent program.

One more detail. Today, I tried moving MyPhoneExplorer extension to the system folder as well. MPE then not only does not offer synchronizing calendar and tasks, but also fails to recognize the extension is installed at all, and offers re-installation. When skipped, it fails synchronizing (although TB reports the extension as installed and enabled).
Can you explain me why you need the addin system-wide ? The addin is only used for sync with MyPhoneExplorer - and in Linux you cannot sync with MyPhoneExplorer to Thunderbird

Hi,
I am sharing my profile between Linux and Windows. Whole profile, including extensions. That means, that extensions, which are platform specific (e.g. enigmail, calendar, MPE...) needs to be installed for each platform separately. MPE is not a big deal, if I see it under linux, but is disabled, I do not really care. But for calendar to work on both platforms, I need to have windows binaries on windows, and Linux binaries on Linux. Thus, it can't go into profile extension, which is shared, it must be system extension.

Depends, where you install Thunderbird, but the default, which is my case, the path is C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\extensions\
The install path of Thunderbird is stored in registry, e.g. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Thunderbird\8.0 (en-US)\Main, key "Install Directory" in my case.
Here are some details to the mozilla registry: http://mike.kaply.com/2007/04/23/firefo ... -registry/

OK, i did some research. The upcoming version can work also with the systemwide installed addon - but you have to install the addon manually to the system location (i think this should be no problem for you
)

I am sorry to revive this thread again. I have just tried the latest beta of MPE, and the MPE extension can work as system extension now. That's excellent.
But the second (and for me more important) problem remains - if Lightning, TB calendar extension, is installed as system extension, MPE does not see it, it does not offer TB for calendar synchronization at all.
Is this limitation of the current beta only? If not, can you, please, check this as well?
Thanks a lot.
