All of a sudden I can't connect to my phone via WiFi

I've been using MPE for several months with no problems. Since upgrading to version 1.8.2 I'm having all sorts of problems connecting to my phone. I can only connect about 20% of the time or less frequently than that.

I start the app on my android phone. It is connected to my network and "waiting for connection".

I start MPE on my computer. It tries to connect to my phone and can't. I get the error, "Connection to the phone could not be established: Phone could not be identified.". My computer is connected to my network just fine. I can access other computers and surf the web no problems.

I'm not changing anything on my phone or on the computer. Why would it connect sometimes and not other times. My WiFi network is not having any problems.

Any help much appreciated.

Restart your WiFi Router and if you still have problems then post the logfile after you saw the error message

Restarting my router didn't make any difference. The problem occurs about 1/2 of the time that I try to connect to my phone, the other 1/2 of the time it works just fine.

Note that when the problem occurs, the client on my phone is started and shows that it is connected to my network via wifi and is waiting connection from MPE.

It seems the connection was dropped after 1 second. I solved already a similar problem in the forum - the solution was to make exceptions in the firewall of the PC for MyPhoneExplorer

I added a rule to make MyPhoneExplorer.exe a trusted program. I'll try that out for awhile and let you know how it works out.

Is MPE started on phone, does the phone have contact to your WiFi router....

You can also enter the IP of the phone directly in the settingswindow of MPE for a more direct connection

Yes, MPE is started on the phone. I always start it first and then open the client on my PC.

Yes, the phone does have contact to my router. When this problem occurs, I am still able to do other things on my phone such as using the browser, etc. via WiFi. Also, the MPE client states "WiFi connected to GeorgeOrwell1984(192.168.0.4)". GeorgeOrwell1984 is my network. Also, I can see in my router that the phone is connected to my network.

I could enter the address each time, but that would be a pain in the neck. The address changes each time as my router dynamically allocates addresses and my phone doesn't always get the same one. I tried entering the address in settings. I set "Connect via..." to "Fixed IP-Address" and typed in the current address. I got the same error.

Also, this doesn't really explain why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I never had this problem with 1.8.1. Did something change in 1.8.2 related to WiFi connectivity?

There were no changes in WiFi connectifity. Can you contact to your phones IP via ping when it does not work ?

Yes. Ping works fine. The phone is definitely connected via WiFi to my network. My PC is also connected to my network. I am able to use Dropbox for instance to get files from my PC to my phone via WiFi. The ONLY thing that doesn't work is MPE. It gets the error that says that "connection to the phone could not be established".

The problem is not with the WiFi connection itself I don't think. It seems to be working fine. It is a problem with MPE not being able to connect to the phone even though the phone is connected to the network.

Hmm, strange. Do you have any special apps on the phone which could act as firewall ?

The only "security" software that I have running is the free version of Lookout.

I have exactly the same problem and I think I even mentioned it somewhere before in this forum. Can you try what happens if, after a failed connect, you leave MPE client on and go browse the internet with your phone. If you have reached a page, try to sync again...

I tried what you suggested. After getting the failure to connect in MPE, I started the browser and successfully went to a web page on my phone. I then tried again to connect, and got the same error. So... that didn't work for me.

I installed both of these (I think). After the install, the phone was running 1.0.15 beta 11 and the PC was running 1.8.2 from 12/19/2011.

I was able to connect the first try. However, even under the old release I was running, I was sometimes able to connect. I'll try using it for a few days and let you know how it goes.

I have two computers. I tried to install the PC software on my second computer from the link you supplied and it was blocked by my antivirus software that says it is infected with Suspicious.Cloud.7.EP. So, I can't install it there.

A bit late, but installed the beta (both).

After installing I start the client (gray icon in top) and MPE and press sync. This gives an error:
