Any better Android calendars?

Beitrag von Simon_y7 »

Are there any better Android calendars (free or paid) that would allow for MPE sync with Outlook 2007?

Most (I think actually, all) calendars read their information from a calendar database. This is what MPE populates. So any calendar would be suitable. Personally I use Business Calendar Free with the Smooth Calendar widget on my home screen.

Thanks. Business Calendar looks good. I even paid $4.99 to get rid of the ads.

I want to synch calendar between my phone and computer. I don't want to put events to google calendar. How can I avoid calendar to be uploaded to google calendar?

Whether you sync with Google or not depends on how you set your phone up. Just set it NOT to sync with Google and you're done.

I am having trouble with the Android calendar not handling properly the recurring calendar events that have exceptions. For instance, there was a recurring appoint that I had for a theater performance a week ago that had Thursday, Friday, Saturday shows @ 7pm and a Sunday performance @ 2pm. I made one "recurring" appointment in Outlook and then dragged the Sunday incidence from 7pm to 2pm). Now my phone (Samsung Galaxy 2) calendar shows the 7pm performance on EVERY DAY forever! The appointments seem to be showing correctly in the MPE desktop calendar. I haven't studied it enough to figure out any more specifics about the recurrance pattern that sets this off (only "Daily" recurrences with exceptions; or "Weekly"?). But I have a LOT of events that are showing up that happened in the past from this type of appointment. Anyone else seen this issue or a work-around?

Do a bit of 'searching' around the forum as this has come up before. I know people also complain to Microsoft about the way they handle recurring appointments. I just can't remember the last thing that FJ said/did about them.

The Microsoft recommended way to handle recurring appointments, at least the last time I Googled the issue (!!), is to end the 'recurrence' at the previous appointment. Add the 'exceptional' appointment as a separate item then start a new 'recurring' appointment at the next one. A bit of a pain in the backend but it does ensure you can sync things properly between Outlook and phone.

Does MPE also sync Outlook Tasks with JORTE Tasks?

FJ - the events are not showing up in the MPE desktop. Just on the phone (Galaxy S2 - Android 2.3.4).

Maybe a solution?

Excuse my english !

I researched on this forum and I found many articles on issues of calendar synchronization for recurring events.

I have the same problem. SGS 2; Android 2.3.4; Windows XP SP3; Outllok 2003; MPE 1.8.2 and 1.8.1; MPE Client 1.0.14 and 1.0.15.beta 8 (for testing).

I have made a lot of test.
With several version of MPE and MPE Client. Same problem.

With other product, the calendar on the phone looks good (KIES, Android-Sync, CompanionLink, Android Sync Manager WiFi... but I prefere MPE !!!), that means there is no problem with the calendar of Samsung or the calendar of Android.

Finaly, I tried this solution : wrote by FJ Aug 11, 2011 21:53 (Previous Daily Recurring Appointments Never end on Synching)
"Its a known bug in Samsung Calendar. I have planned a fix, until then you can fix it yourself with a workaround: Select the problematic events in MyPhoneExplorer-Rightclick-Mark as edited -> then sync."

indeed, it works but it is just a workaround.

So I think there is a problem with MPE Client, and the end date.

In fact, in Outlook 2003, there are three ways to define the end of recurring appointment, either Number of occurrences, or end date or no date (no end).
I seems that the methode used to create the appointment in Outlook 2003 are not correctly duplicated in MPE and MPE Client, allways with Number of occurences, and never with end date.

This may be an indication to explore to fix the bug.

Hope this help you.

Regards.

I did implement the same workaround automatically since Client version 1.0.14

I will explain you the problem: The Recurring info is saved as textual RRULE-String in the calendar database. Besides this there is another column named "lastdate" - its a numeric field. The calendar-provider has to calculate the lastdate-Value from the textual RRULE-Information - and he does. I checked the sourcecode of the calendar provider. But on Samsung phones it seems that this automatic calculation does not work every time, sometime it just fails. So its to 100% a bug of the calendar provider

FJ - your work-around handles the problem perfectly. And I have noticed that it only occured with a few appointments - not ALL of the recurring one's with exceptions. So I haven't had any more issues to work-around. Thanks!
