Contact address info, and feature request

Beitrag von hollywood »

Hi, new here :)

What a great program, THANK YOU!

I did see one problem though, while listing my contacts, I checked the address box, and on the LIST, it properly displays the street, city, state, and postal code, but if you double click on a contact, the edit window does not show the city, state, or postal code.

I have not yet had to do a restore, but I fear these fields may be missing?

as far as a small feature request, on the contacts screen, there are field choices of NAME, FIRST NAME, and LAST NAME. I know I could uncheck name and use last name , then first name and will sort as I wish, but it would be nice to see NAME changed to "NAME (first last)" and add another choice "NAME (last, first)". That way if you wish to sort by last name, the program would format it rather then use 2 different columns.

again, THANK YOU for this wonderful program!!!

Additional information:

I used Google Contacts to setup and edit all of my contacts, and then I deleted all of my phone contacts. I then exported my contacts from Google Contacts to my mSD card and used my Android contact program to import that file.

What I think is the problem is that Google Contacts puts the whole address in one field (rather then street, city, state, postal).
When in MyPhoneExplorer, although the whole address is shown on the contacts list screen, when you double click a contact to edit it, the MPE address field sometimes contained the street address (only, on some contacts), and others contacts it contained the contained the City, State (only).
All of my contacts that have an address look like:

1234 E. Any Street Ave.
My City, My State, My Country My Postal
(all in one field in Google Contacts)

Although MPE "lists" this address, you can't edit it (in MPE).

Since Google is a MAJOR player in Android and contact backup, can you support it's address filed, OR maybe I'm missing something?

Thanks again!

OK, I figured it out! :D MPE will store a multi-line address ALL in the Street field if that is how it was created, but in the edit screen, it will only show one line. To see if the rest was there (or editable), I tried the Home and End keys which did not work, BUT, the up and down arrow keys did :)

MPE did properly support addresses stored all as one field, but the edit box did not indicate it or how to access/edit separate lines. I would keep the arrow navigation, but suggest a mouse click at the end of the field box if more information is also on another line.

again, .....GREAT PROGRAM!!!

Saving the whole address in one field is outdated. Even Google supports 5 fields for the address since i think 4 years.

Caus ethe display-name. Its not possible to control how the contact is shown in the phone, but you can set the displayname in MyPhoneExplorer in the settings

I just checked google.com/contacts, and google voice which also links to your contacts, and although they both use different web formats. If I try to edit a contact, I get one edit box that I can enter an address in. *Maybe* it separates them into different fields, but I only see one edit box.

Now to add more confusion , I deleted all of my MPE contacts (and on the phone), and created a vCard file from my google contacts. This time most of the addresses displayed properly in the MPE edit box. On some, the Postal Code (zip code) was in the City field (in front of the city).

I have a nice PC address book program, and of course my phone (via MPE). I think my best way to manage my contacts is to keep them current in google contacts, and when I need to, update by by exporting vCards from google.

Thanks again for providing such a GREAT program!
