Lost contacts

Beitrag von paoloit6 »

In many tume the contact are lost in MPE.
If I request import contact from the phone, not work.
I must erase all contact in the phone and next start a new sync.

What I can do to load the contact from my phone?

thanks

Does this happen on an Android device?

Please note:
If your device does NOT have a local contact account, do NOT set the MPE client to sync with the "phone" account (also if it is shown in client settings). In this case the phone itself will switch the contacts to your google account and when you sync next time, MPE will notify you that there are no contacts on phone.
If you dont want to sync your contacts to google, you can disable contact sync to google and keep your contacts local between google account and MPE.

Hello,

I have the same problem, however I don't like your answer, because I don't want to have Google contacts !

I hate the Google privacy policy, and I don't want them to have access to my contact list. You may argue that if I hate Google, I should'nt have an Android phone, but I hate even more the marketing jail of Apple...

Disabling Google sync will also disable the access to the Play Store, so I won't be able to install any new application. This is not what I want either.

So : is there a way to get MPE to synchronize properly contacts that are stored on the phone only ?

Thank you.

Hi,

the case i described above is only for phones that don't have a local contact account (i.e. Nexus).
If you have local accounts (i.e. HTC), there should be no problem to sync.
Disabling Google sync will also disable the access to the Play Store, so I won't be able to install any new application.
That's not correct. You can disable sync to google but you have still access to Play Store. You don't have access to Play Store if you DELETE your Google account.

I did this way by myself, disabled the Google sync, but am able to sync my contacts (and calendar) with MPE. There's not a single contact in Google's cloud.

You are right. My problem with the Play Store was actually related to the firewall configuration.

I followed your instructions and it works. I'm still not comfortable with Google contacts, even if they are not sync'd, but I presume that there is no other way today.

Anyway, thank you for your help.

What kind of phone brand do you have?
If it has a local account, i also would prefer this instead of google contact accounts.
I can not speak about all kind of brands, but, as i mentioned, i know my current Nexus has no local account, my older HTC has a local account and also my wife's Galaxy Tab 2 has a local account. All of them are able to sync with MPE and there's no information going to Google.

But it's good to get your feedback that it's working. Thanks.

It is a Wiko Cink Slim, with ICS 4.0.4.

Wiko is a company selling phones manufactured by the chinese company Tinno.

It has a local contact account, named "Phone" on the phone. But MPE cannot see it. If I transfer all my contacts to the "Phone" account (using the phone), and then try to synchronize with MPE, it says that there is no contact in the phone !

Even more weird:

Let's say I have a Google account in the phone, with all my contacts. MPE on my PC looks like this :

Bild

So my Google contacts account is named "Phone". Strange but OK (on this screenshot, I haven't clicked on "Phone" to avoid showing my contacts here, but they are there). Now I create a new contact on the PC, named "test3". I have previously set MPE in my phone to add new contacts in the Phone account. I get this    :

Bild

I now have two accounts. The Google account is now properly named "Google" ! All my contacts are there. And the Phone account contains 1 contact, "test3".

But that's not all, folks ! Now, let's switch to the phone. My "test3" contact looks like this:

Bild

Ok. Now I create another Phone contact, "Test4", using the phone. I get this     :

Bild

It looks like I have two different local Phone accounts, although this doesn't show up in any MPE menu in the phone. For example, in MPE > Settings > Add new contacts to, I still have two options, "Phone" or "Google". And if I synchronize my phone with MPE, the new "Test4" contact is not transferred to the PC. It is simply ignored by MPE.

I feel like all this is not a feature, it's a bug :?

Yes, its a bug. The local contact account in your phone is not correctly registred so MyPhoneExplorer is not able to detect it. Do this:
- UNCHECK all contact-accounts in the settings of the client, click on OK and do NOT open this setting again
- click on the second button in the toolbar of the contactswindow in MyPhoneExplorer (Download entire)
- now all contacts should appear
- restart MyPhoneExplorer on the PC
- create a new local contact on the phone
- sync the phonebook with MyPhoneExplorer
- post the logfile here
