can't get the sync to process contacts created in phone

Beitrag von magowiz »

Hello,

I'm testing MPE (and it's very good!), but I still can't get the sync to transfer NEW contacts created on the phone.

- MPE shows 2 PhoneBooks: "Local Phone Account (Phone)" and "USIM Account (Phone)". These PhoneBooks were created automaticcally by MPE on the first connection, and were filled with contacts.

- Now, when a new contact is created from MPE (or from Outlook, on the PC), a new PhoneBook is created, named "Phone", with the new contact put in. As I sync the phone, the contact is transfered to the phone. I can modify or delete the contact either from outlook or from the phone, and the data is correctly updated in the next sync, both ways.

- If I create a new contact from the phone, choosing to use the phone memory (NOT in any external accounts) the new contact is created ONLY in the phone, and is not transferred to MPE nor to Outlook in the next sync.

Apparently, some confusion arises acrosso the internal PhoneBooks.

Please note the the sync works perfectly with the Calendar instead.

I am using MPE 1.8.4. on the PC and the 1.0.23 version of the client on and Android 4.0.4 Phone. The settings of the client are the default, with Agenda set to sync with "PCSync" and contacts set to sync to "Phone" only (Idon't want to sync data to any of the external accounts)

Thank you!

MPE does not link to the right internal PhoneBook of Android 4.0.

MPE originated contact are tansferd to the phone in a "Phone" account created and managed for the purpose. But the ones created in the phone as "InternalPhone" don't get seen by MPE

Maybe its just a problem related to a wrong naming?

The "Phone" entry should be normaly linked to "Local Phone Account (Phone)". I think i added this local account in the last beta - please install the beta of the client and tell me if the issue is fixed: www.fjsoft.at/mpeclient.apk

I have a similar problem that might be related to the OP. If you think my problem is not related to the OP, please tell me so I can open a new topic.

Programs & Versions
I'm using a Motorola XT311 phone with Android v2.3.5
MPE PC Client v1.8.4 and APP v1.0.24 beta8 (as suggested above)

Problem Description
The first time I used the phone, I restored an MPE Backup from the previous phone, and placed all contacts in the device and NOT in my google account Every time I make a change in these restored contacts, they sync OK with MPE. Everytime I create a new contact using the phone's original contact app, it does NOT sync with MPE.

Additional Info
I'll use the term "restored contact" to refer to the contacts restored with MPE and "phone contact" for contacts created on the phone using the phone's own app.
  • When using the phone's stock app to edit a restored contact, at the top it says "Phone only (unsynced) contact". When using the phone's stock app to edit a phone contact, at the top it says "Phone only (unsynced) contact" and right below that it says "from phone contacts"
  • When I select NOT to show Phone contacts in the phone's contact app settings, I can see all the restored contacts EXCEPT the phone contacts.
  • I use another contact app called exDialer & Contacts. In that app's Display Options, there is a setting where I can select which contacts to be visible. I have 4 options there: Google Account, com.contacts.phone (phone contacts), Phone (Show unsynced contacts in phone) and SIM Card (Show SIM card contats). When I select ONLY the com.contacts.phone I see only the phone contacts.

My guess is that there is more than one Phone contacts group or account (or whatever this is called), which is ignored by MPE and thus does not get synced. Could that be the case? If so, is there a way to merge those two accounts into one (the phone contacts preferably)?

Yes. probably you are right.

- UNCHECK all contact accounts in the settings of MyPhoneExplorer Client in the phone (on "Contact-accounts to sync")
- press on "Download entire" in MyPhoneExplorer - second button in the toolbar
- restart MyPhoneExplorer
- add a new contact directly with you phone
- sync again
- post the logfile

Hello again. Thank you for the follow-up and I'm sorry for the late reply.

I unchecked both contact accounts in MPE Client in phone, but the next time I tapped to see if everything was unchecked as I wanted, both accounts were checked. If I leave only one contact account checked, the setting persists when I tap again to see.

The same happened all of the times I tried.

HI,
same problem with my WIKO Cink Peax :

i can see google contact, skype contact
but
i cant see my phone contacts...

Name of my phone Contacts : "Phone"

When i create a contact, from my PC, and then i synchronised, the name of the contacts is :
"Téléphone"

so, "Phone" is not "Téléphone".

i Think the trouble come from this difference.

I am also having this issue. I use the internal Phone contacts, not gmail contacts. I recently replaced my computer and got version 1.8.4 of MPE. I had to then upgrade the phone's version from 1.0.18( 23 ) to 1.0.23( 28 ). Sync worked fine on the older version with my old laptop.

I've checked MPE on the phone and it is set to sync "Phone" contacts and not the Gmail contacts.

Phone: Samsung Epic 4G
Old MPE version that worked: 1.0.18( 23 )
New version of MPE that doesn't sync Phone contacts: 1.0.23( 28 )
ROM: ERA Legendary RC2.2 (Android 2.3.5)

Hello FJ and all.

I'd like to provide some more feedback about this problem. Here is a screenshot of MPE's accounts
Bild
at the top left side. We can clearly see there is another account besides Phone and SIM (but not GAccount). Contacts saved under this account (com.contacts.phone) can not belong to any group, since the group list is empty as show in the following screenshot
Bild

For the time being, I have come up with a work-around of the problem. When I create a contact, as I mentioned before, the contact is saved under com.contacts.phone account instead of Phone account. There is no option in MPE to transfer a contact from one account to another, but I can copy - paste a contact. So I click on com.contacts.phone (top left) to display these contacts, right click on a contact and chose Copy, click on Phone (top left), right click and paste. The I go back to com.contacts.phone to erase the contact from there.

I hope this helps others, until FJ kindly fixes this issue :)

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me. The only account I have listed in MPE under contacts is "Phone". Maybe its something specific with Samsung.

I did manage to get things working again. I found the a copy of MPE 1.8.3 for the desktop so I uninstalled 1.8.4 and installed 1.8.3 on my computer. I have Titanium Backup so I was able to revert back to 1.0.18 ( 23 ) for the client running on my phone.

I'm now able to backup my contacts and everything else! I do get a message that says my phone client is outdated but it seems to be working fine with this version combo. I'll keep my eyes open for a future patch. I know these things take time.

Thanks!

@tony: SIM contacts should not appear at all. I added your local account to the list of preferred "Phone" accounts. It should work now, please test: www.fjsoft.at/mpeclient.apk

@alain:

@janderia: Samsung phones should not make problems cause i have many testers for this brand. Please tell me your problem as you see it - and don't say: I have the same problem as the others

After installing the new APK the Group functionality in MPE is completely broken. Contact groups can not be selected because the group list is empty. If a contact already belongs to a group, then the group name is displayed when click-ing the group button in MPE, but no other groups are displayed. Because of that, there is no way to assign an already grouped contact to another group, or any non-grouped contact to any group.

As far as I can guess, you consolidated both accounts (Phone + com.contacts.phone) to be displayed under one account in MPE (Phone), but this account inherited the grouping problems com.contacts.phone used to have.

P.S. When writing click-ing (without the dash), the forum software converts it to xxx

You might find a solution by reading this thread http://www.fjsoft.at/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19699, the issue you've encountered with phone-to-outlook sync sounds similar to what i was experiencing. Setting up a local phone account for contacts took care of my sync issue.

Please test the current beta of MyPhoneExplorer Client: www.fjsoft.at/mpeclient.apk

Instead of "Phone, Local Phone Account (Phone) and USIM Account (Phone)" you should see now only "Phone" (and maybe your new MyLocalAccount).

"Local Phone Account" should be detected as "Phone", this was an issue of the client. SIM-Contacts should not be accessible throught MyPhoneExplorer at all since the restrictions for this account are very diffrent from phone to phone and also between older and newer SIM cards.
