I noticed small bug (or maybe unimplemented feature) when receiving SMS if you have "ICE numbers" in your address book.

ICE numbers is a way for paramedics, police men etc to quickly get in touch with your relatives if they for instance find you unconscious and needs to get in touch with your friends/family.

Typically you have your wife "Jane Doe" with phone number 12345678 saved in your address book. Its difficult for a paramedic to guess who your wife is in your phone book if you have 150 contacts saved.

The convention here is to save an extra entry in your phone book named "ICE1 - Wife", "ICE2 - daughter", "ICE3-Boss" etc, but with the same number as the person to call.


A problem here is obviously if you receive a call or an SMS. How should the phone know whether to show "Jane Doe" or "ICE1-Wife" in the messaging application? (Both those entries have the same number) The trick is to add an asterisk '*' at the end of each ICE number. So in my case:

Jane Doe: 12345678
ICE1-Wife: 12345678*

The phone then ignores numbers ending with an asterisk when doing name lookup.

But for MyPhoneExplorer, all SMS from my wife are displayed with "ICE1-Wife" instead of "Jane Doe".


My suggestion is that you ignore names ending with asterisk ('*') when you do name lookup for numbers in SMS, call history etc.

I hope you think this is a nice feature and would like to add it yo the great product MyPhoneExplorer.

MPE sync two of the three addresses (home and bussines), what about the third one (other)? It's supported by both Outlook and Android.

A filter-option by groups is basicly not a bad idea. But i have already a contact-account filter implemented and now a second split into groups ? Sounds complicated, even for the GUI. I'll wait a littlebit to see if there comes more requests in this topic

How about an option to only sync contacts with phone numbers? It gets really messy as I use my email and more contacts get saved :/

1 : On MPE Tasks, it would be awesome to have a fast scroll slider on the right side (see the red arrow on the picture below).



2 : When I'm on MPE Tasks, I edit a Task, then I click on "Ok" or on "Cancel", the list view is automatically reset to the first Task (not the Task I was editing).
I would prefer to be sent back where I came from (to avoid scrolling among dozens of tasks).

3 : On MPE Tasks, when we click on a date (to change it) would it be possible to display the day (monday, tuesday, etc...) while choosing the date ? (scrolling from numbers 20 to 28 doesn't indicate if it's a monday or a sunday, so I need a real calendar each time I enter an appointment)

4 : If I uninstall MPE on the phone, then install a new version, do you think my Notes and Tasks will still be there on the phone ?

I haven't found a bugtracker or a forum post/category for bugs, so I hope it's fine posting it here.

When using with an Android phone and using multiple sources for contacts (like Phone/Google/WhatsApp) on 1.8.2 you can select a source independently or select 'All'.

If you filter (using upper right box) something, this works for all selected contact sources.

However, if you are switching between the contact sources it works only for the specific contact source (i.e. Phone or WhatsApp). If you reselect 'All' then the previous screen remains shown.

@Simon: The current beta does have some more sortoptions, but your idea would affect all other sortmodes (at least for the second and third sort instance). Currently i'm not happy about this idea. Black letters on white ground are currently not planned.

@globalzorian: I know that this feature doesn't work on new SonyEricsson phones but there is no way to fix this cause MPE uses here existing interfaces (in your case missing)

I don't know - maybe it was posted before, but it would be sweet to see "Turn off the computer" feature while phone is 100% charged? Or something like "you need approx. 20 min. till your phone will be 100% charged"... Just an ideas of sleepy user

FJ, can you somehow number/identify your betas? Otherwise, I have no way of knowing if the one I have on my phone at the moment is the most recent. Thanks.

@PATATAJEC: Hmm, sounds sweet. But do you really think there are alot of users which let the computer run only to charge the phone ?

@simon: The betas for the client are versioned. f.e. 1.0.15 beta12. The beta for PC is timestamped, you'll see the compile time in the splash screen

I woul like to keep all the calendar Items and syc only last 30 days and future items.
Current version deletes all the items older than 30 days.

Thanks for the replay FJ . Yeah, I think it make sense... If someone lost his charger he can only buy a new one (I'm forgetting to buy one since I've lost mine 3 months ago), or charge with the comupter... To have battery full on the morning, ready for long new day it needs to be charged thru the night, but desktops are so loud ... Sorry for my english!

Ok, I have installed the latest beta version (1.0.15 beta 13), but it didn't change the date choosing method.
From inside a Task, I see full date "tuesday 27 / dec / 2011".
When I click on the date the day disappears (tuesday for example), a GUI pops up with 3 editable sliders :
26 / dec / 2011
27 / dec / 2011


I would prefer to have this (while scrolling the numbers) :
monday 26 / dec / 2011
tuesday 27 / dec / 2011

Because with the current method I have to select a random date and press the "Define" button, to see the day appear, then I have to go back to date editing, add a few days to get to the day I really need, etc...

When we see the Task list, the first week doesn't show the number, only "monday, tuesday, etc...", so I'm always wondering what number it is.

Thank you for this great soft. Since it manages contact groups and has a column for that, i will not use any other.

Having almost a thousand contacts to sort in groups, it would be nice if i could select several contact in the list and assign them to a group in a single operation.

This would save me and maybe other users from cramps in fingers and headaches.

(1) how do I find the version of the client beta that I have on my phone right now?

(2) where do I find the most recent client beta?

(3) how do I install it so not to overwrite my data?

(4) does it make sense to always "hunt" for the most recent beta?

Could the size of the "Create Backup" dialog be increased ? Right now it is not possible to see the folders listed without a lot of scrolling. Also, deselecting a folder should automatically deselect the sub-folders i.e. it should work like a tree instead of the flat structure.
To be clear, if i needed two sub-folders out of ten i would deselect the parent folder which would cause all sub-folders to be deselected and then select the desired two folders.

This is because i don't need to backup my music/common files each time i do a backup.

MPE was the reason I waited for to migrate from WM6 to Android, I appreciate your work very much, thank you.
I have following feature suggestion regarding MPE Tasks android application:
When task is due and reminder pops up on phone there are just Done and Ok buttons. It would be nice to be able e.g. to open the task and/or have several possibilities to snooze/postpone the reminder (5 min, hour, day, week, ...).
Also notification text is saying "Task failing due", but AFAIK is triggered just by reminder, so the task may be not due yet. Can you consider rewording?

I wish to have in the next upgrade of MPE more flexible setup of characters size (increase the size), especially in the "new message" window.
Now there's only one option to change font size in Settings/appearance/large font but actually it doesn't change significant font size in the "new message" window (text of message). It should be possible to get bigger and smaller characters, it would be very much needed feature especially for large screen resolution.
This one lack makes using MPE not quite comfortable without glasses

An even better way of choosing from the phone a Task date, would be the kind of popup that's in the picture below, but I guess it would take time to add such a feature.
