I never would have found that last button - 3 deep into MPE's desktop interface - without the screen shot.

If your appts. are missing is it because you have Google sync turned on? That woul dmean that your phone is syncing with Googles servers which have, in your case I assume, no entries?

I don't think I turned off anything and when syncing my Google Pixel with MPE, it seemed to update my Google stock calendar and Outlook.

How do you turn off the Google server? And is this necessary? ... .

You turn off the sync between your phone and Google's servers.

[phone]Settings > Accounts > Google > (turn off the sync options).

TYhat way you can sync your PC to your phone's Google account but the phone won't sync with Google so your data is kept on your phone/PC.

Ok, since I am really short on time right now, I will likely wait until later today to go thru the steps you mentioned above, regarding doing the backup and changing the Local Calendar settings. Once I do, I will let you know how it goes.

Forgive me if this is a "newbie" question, but if I decided to use Business Calendar that you recommended (is that by Appegenix? If so, it looks good and gets great reviews!) then could I install that, and have that sync with MPE and Outlook?

And is there any disadvantage to installing Business Calendar and still having my MPE settings on my phone set to my Gmail account and Google calendar (as they are now, meaning not changing anything nor adding or creating any "new local calendar" as you suggest above, but just use Business Calendar as the app where I schedule and view all my appts, and just ignore Google calendar, even though it, too, is being populated with all my appts?) Does this make sense?

I think I am just too new at this tech stuff and don't have a great grasp on how the stock calendar in the phone, 3rd party calendars (like Business Calendar) and MPE and Outlook work together. I appreciate your patience!

UPDATE

UPDATE: (I apologize for the long post, just wanted to provide details of where I am currently, along with all my current settings...thanks for your patience)

Here is where I am at with syncing calendar and contacts, and could I possibly get some suggestions on how I should have my phone set up (possibly different than what was suggested above?).

CONTACTS: This is my most current issue! In Outlook, on my desktop, my contacts look good, no real duplicates to speak of. In MPE on my desktop, I do see some duplicates but not horrible. Now, on my actual phone, a nightmare of duplicates! (How can this be, if MPE and my phone are supposed to "mirror" each other???). I believe this might be because they are tied to 2 accounts: my gmail account and "My Local Account" (I believe I installed this app per MPE recommendation!). Also, only in my phone, my contacts appear to be really messed up, with some contacts merging with others - meaning, I text my friend, Jill, and get a reply back from Joe! They are somehow merging! I don't want to sync with my Google contacts and currently, this is unchecked (see below) so how do I deal with this?

SETTINGS: In MPE on my phone, settings for "Contacts - Accounts to Sync", just "My Local Account (Local Contacts)" is checked off. Nothing else. Not even my gmail account is checked off. In settings on my phone, under Google account, I have contacts sync OFF.

In MPE under "Add New Contacts to" only My Local Account is checked off. How can I get rid of these duplicates on my phone, get rid of this weird merging issue and clean it up to look like Outlook and MPE? And I would prefer to NOT have Google sync my contacts![u]

CALENDAR: This, for some reason (weird, after my original post here) seems to be syncing fine. I have the stock calendar on my phone (which looks to be Google calendar) and I installed Business Calendar as a 3rd party app. Now, here are my current settings:

SETTINGS: In MPE on my phone, under "Calendars to Sync" here is what is checked off: Contacts, Holidays in US, CBH Daily Calendar (I think this might be the name of my Google calendar when I was using it years ago), Contacts (again), Holidays in US (again).

Under "Add New Events to", CBH Daily Calendar is checked off. Under "Manage local calendars" nothing is checked off, there is nothing there, other than the option to "Create new local calendar" as I mentioned above.

Now, under "Settings" on my phone (in general) under Google, here is what is checked off:
App Data
Calendar (might uncheck this, based on advice here)
Chrome
Drive
Gmail
Google Play Music
People details

So, given all this info, my biggest problem right now seems to be contacts.

Next, my calendar is syncing fine with MPE and Outlook, even though I have been populating Google calendar too and have it checked to sync as well. I don't really want to mess with it (even though I never wanted to have all my appts in Google calendar.) I suppose I can leave it as is, and knowing that my appts all go to Google calendar can be a comfort, in case I lose them somewhere else, but is there a way to NOT have them populate in Google calendar, only on a local calendar in the phone, to be synced wit MPE and Outlook reliably?

I have to say, I really appreciate all the assistance thus far. This is one of the reasons I have been using MPE for a while and continue to tell others about it! I look forward to your guidance with this and appreciate your patience with my tech "newbie" status :)

Ok, not 100% sure if I did this right but went into Contacts, then Settings > Accounts > (made sure Google Contact sync is off) > MyLocalAccount - sync is on.

However, I still have all the duplicates and all the contacts from Google in there that I do not want. Synced with MPE and still, Outlook looks fine, MPE has some dupes and my phone is still a mess with dupes! What am I missing?

Also, any thoughts on what I asked about the calendar syncing?

Thank you so much.

Good morning,
if...
  1. Phone => Contacts-App => Settings => Contacts Account view => only "MyLocalAccount" activate
  2. Phone => MPE-Client => Settings => contacts-account to sync only "My LocalAccount" activate
  3. MPE => F2 => Sync => Contacts/Sync with => Advanced => Outlook folder to sychronise only one folder activate
then...
  • delete all contacts in your phone
  • MPE => contacts => Blue arrow (Download entire)
  • sync force Outlook > phone

Ok, so this seemed to work well. I have a few dups but can easily delete those by hand. So, a few things going forward please:

1) Do I now want to go back to Settings in MPE Desktop and choose "Sync Both" instead of "Force Outlook to Phone", so that if I add a contact via my phone, Outlook will be updated and vice versa?

2) Right now, under Settings in MPE on my phone, "Contacts -accounts to Sync" the only thing checked off is MyLocalAcct. I should keep it this way, correct?

3) Regarding my calendar, I do have Settings under MPE on my phone, "Calendars to Sync", the following is checked off: Contacts, CBH Calendar (which I believe is my Google Calendar), Contacts again, Holidays in US". Why does it show Contacts twice?

4) SO, going back to my questions from several posts ago, see below:

"my phone calendar right now is syncing fine with MPE and Outlook, even though I have been populating Google calendar too and have it checked to sync as well. I don't really want to mess with it (even though I never wanted to have all my appts in Google calendar.) Meaning, it looks like there is a MyLocalAccount for Contacts. Is there one for calendar, too?

Is there any disadvantage to using Google calendar "linked" to MPE and Outlook as I have been? Hope this makes sense! I am just trying to find a way to consistently and reliably sync my phone calendar to Outlook and create an environment where no appts will be lost if I had to hard reset or anything!

Thank you so much!

Hi,
1) Yes, the choise "Sync Both" is now OK
2) Yes, MPE supports only one contacts account with "Outlook"
3) + 4)
Two Contacts, "Holidays in US" all are your Google Calendars
CBH Calendar ??? I don't know :?

CatB hat geschrieben:Meaning, it looks like there is a MyLocalAccount for Contacts. Is there one for calendar, too?

Yes, phone => MPE-Client => Settings => Manage local calendar : Here are all the local calendar is displayed.

If I go into MPE on my phone > settings > Manage local calendars > There ARE NO local calendars. All I see is an option to "Create new local calendar" and a tag for Birthdays. No other things listed.

Under Phone MPE > Settings> Calendars to Sync > that is where I see the Contacts (listed and checked off twice), Holidays in US (listed and checked off twice), and CBH - Daily Calendar (checked off), which again is what I believe I named my Google calendar years ago.

So, it looks like MPE is syncing primarily with Outlook on my desktop and Google calendar on my phone. Does this make sense?

Is there any reason I would NOT want this option?

Ok, but again, this is where I am confused so please bear with me. Right now, since there is nothing under "Local calendar" that basically means I am syncing Outlook with my phone and Gmail/Google calendar. Correct?

And, is there any reason I would not want to do that? Wouldn't syncing with Google calendar assure that I always have a backup of my appts, in case something went wrong?

And if there is a reason I would NOT want to sync with Google calendar, just choosing "Create New Local", and naming it whatever I want, would automatically allow me to sync that with Outlook and MPE?

Yes!

CatB hat geschrieben:And, is there any reason I would not want to do that?
Many! The Google Sync is not considered a "real" Sync. It only takes your data and saves it. On th other hand, the MPE compares data and gives you the chance to choose which set of data to keep.

CatB hat geschrieben:Wouldn't syncing with Google calendar assure that I always have a backup of my appts, in case something went wrong?
No. If something goes wrong with your Sync with Google you will have data loss.
Using a local calendar and the MPE always leaves you an option to recover from the stored data on your computer.

CatB hat geschrieben:And if there is a reason I would NOT want to sync with Google calendar, just choosing "Create New Local", and naming it whatever I want, would automatically allow me to sync that with Outlook and MPE?
Not automatically, you have to keep an eye on the settigs in the MPE client and in the MPE programm to get the proper settings for the Sync. But thats easy done within a minute.

Ok, so Google Calendar might not be the way to go. So, could you walk me thru setting up a local calendar and how to make MPE sync with that and Outlook?

Also, is there any disadvantage to setting up both a local calendar to sync with MPE and Outlook, while keeping Google Calendar alsos synced with them? Meaning, can MPE sync with both a local calendar and Outlook and also Google calendar and Outlook? Or is this overkill?

My primary objective is to make sure that I never lose the appts in my phone and in my Outlook on desktop.

I wish I understood all this stuff a bit more!

DON´T DON´T DON´T !!! The moment you keep Google Sync on you will face data loss.

What do you mean by this? Don't many people use Google calendar with no issues? I have used other 3rd party apps in the past and certainly had data loss before.

So far, choosing my google account as the account for my stock calendar to sync with, and then syncing Outlook with my phone via MPE has worked fine. Confused by your statement. Would you mind elaborating?

Using the Google Account is something different than syncing your data online with Google. Perhaps you should do some reading to this matter first because I get the feeling you mix up pretty much here.
