+ prevents me from dialing imported contacts

Hello, I hope someone can help me. It sounds like a setting issue somewhere, but where...?

My Outlook contacts import correctly but they all have a + in front of the phone number, and then I cannot dial them (or send text messages). I get a "number not in service" recording from my carrier.

Phone is a Motorolla Atrix. PC is Windows XP using Microsoft Outlook. I recently updated MyPhoneExplorer. It used to work. Could that be it?

Thank you.

+ in front of numbers with different area code

I have the same problem. In Europe, the + is used to replace the 00 prefix you need to dial for US numbers. The number for my phone is in the 301 area code, but many of my contacts have numbers with 240 area code. It is only these numbers with different area codes that have the + in front. I think the sync SW believes that the + needs to be in front because it is a US number but a different area code!?

The '+' is the internationally recognised format to display the 'access international number code'. As you say, in some countries it is '00' but the USA, for example, has '011'. Others are different again. With a mobile phone I can prefix any phone number with a '+' instead of the '00'/'011'/whatever and the mobile operator takes care of the translation of the '+' to the correct code.

For example, ALL of my contacts are saved in the '+' format, even local numbers to me. However the UK operators then see the UK country code (44) and charge for a local call (or it gets included in my inclusive plan). Means I can go abroad and not have to worry about editing numbers.

Not sure that helps but I though we should clarify what the '+' really does.

Hey all. I uninstalled MPE 1.8.2 and reinstalled 1.8.1, removed all my contacts then reimported them and everything is back to normal.

mdyck, do you mean your phone is able to dial the contacts now with the + signs or do the + signs just dont show up on your phone?

I am having the same issue, for all numbers in my contacts outside my home area code a '+' sign now preceeds the number when it syncs to my phone. I receive an error when I attempt to make a call. Any help would be appreciated!

I had same issue with the +

I too had the dialing / sms issue w/ the + and 1.8.2. I would get a null reference error when attempting to sms using MPE. But if I simply edited the phone number and removed the +, SMS would work fine. I have over 600 contacts and didnt feel like editing each one manually, so I downgraded back to 1.8.1, and re-synced w/ Outlook and they are back to "normal" ... can the addition of the + either be fixed or make it an optional setting to turn on/off for those of us who are having the problem... it may even be our Cell phone carrier who's having the issue... idk.
Thanks for the great product.

I was having a like problem. My local area code is 252, but that is also the country code for Somalia. Every phone number in Outlook that had 252 as the area code showed up as +252 on my Droid X. When I tried to dial, it would tell me that I don't have international dialing on my plan. The same was true of any area code that was the same number as a country code. Area codes that did not correspond with a country code did not get the +. Thankfully the beta version fixed the problem.
