Newest Version randomly adds '+' to phone numbers

Beitrag von scotrinaf »

I installed the latest version today of MyPhoneExplorer, and upon doing a sync, noticed that it randomly added the '+' sign in front of numbers... I have over 500 contacts in my phone and it probably affected 35-40% of the numbers... When I go that contact and click "Call", it dials the entire country code and I'm more than a little concerned that I could be charge for international calls that way...

I randomly checked the entries created in Outlook and no country code was showing there...

Running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit edition
Running Microsoft Outlook 2010
Phone: HTC Incredible 2, latest Android Software

Same problem here. I posted to the following thread: http://www.fjsoft.at/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14804

I'm using the same equipment: Windows 7, MPE 1.8.2, Outlook 2010, Verizon HTC Incredible, WiFi connection. Everything works great, except that new contacts phone numbers include the + which isn't resolved properly when I call the contact, unless I edit the number first.

Thanks.

Outlook 2010 Number Formatting

Beitrag von scotrinaf »

I tried editing the numbers in MPE, but as soon as it synced with Outlook, Outlook overrode the numbers again...

It has to be something with the way the numbers are keyed into Outlook, but I just can't quite figure out what it is...

I know that in Outlook 2010, in order to get the correct # formatting (123) 456-7890, you have to open your control panel and go to Phone & Modem dialing rules and set your area code, otherwise, Outlook just formats the number as 123567890.

Apparently, something in the way the newest version of MPE reads this encoding, it sees it as a country code, however, it doesn't see all of them that way which is quite odd... I almost wonder if it is something to do with having keyed in contacts in an older version of Outlook vs. the Outlook 2010 version...

Just downloaded the latest version for the desktop and client betas. Closed both programs, cleared app cache on phone, reopened client and desktop and did a sync. I still have the "+" in front of many of my phone numbers, both in phone contacts and MPE on the desktop. Is there more to it with the beta versions than just installing and syncing to clear the "+" from in front of the area code? Should I export everything to a CSV, do a search and replace, and reimport?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Desktop version - 1.8.2 - nightly 12/9/2011 8:31:14 AM
Client Version - 1.015 beta9

Here are a few examples:

+352 394-4xxx
+352 243-0xxx
+1 (352) 348-4xxx
+352 242-1xxx

It seems as though all my numbers with the 352 area code are affected.

Thanks for researching this issue!

I will have to get back to you on that format. The PC I sync with Outlook is not available to me for the next week or so. I'll check those formats and post them as soon as I can check it.

Hi FJ, I just got back to my main PC and checked the format of the numbers in Outlook. It appears that they are all listed in there with the format of +352 (242) xxxx. They did not used to have the + sign in front. Now that they do, do I need to go through and manually edit every number? Regular numbers that show up correctly have the format (407) 810 xxxx. Not sure what happened, or exactly when, but if there is an easy way to fix, it would be great! Thanks for your help in sorting this out!

You got these kind of numbers throught MyPhoneExplorer - raised from the initial problem. Sorry, you have to reedit them manually. There is no quickfix. I hope there are not too much of them

Hi FJ, Luckily there were only 65 numbers to edit. I went through and edited them earlier today in Outlook and then synced with both phones and it seems to be OK. Hopefully we won't see this come up again! :)

Dito - also having "+" issues but cant solve with

Beitrag von bluesneaky »

THis is happening to me as well however I can NOT get MPE to quit seeing outlook address as having a "+" in the phone number (only some contacts not all). I even go so far as to force the sync to overwrite outlook from the phone data which has it with no "+" in the contacts phone number. No matter what I do each sync of MPE to outlook the same contacts come up with the same "+" as leading digit to the phone number when the sync conformation window comes up.

When I look at the outlook contact card there is no "+" in the number but yet when I go to sync MPE reads the outlook file and displays a "+" in the outlook data and asks if I wan to overwrite the phone data with the oultook data that has the "+" in the contacts phone number.

What should be tried next since the outlook stored phone number looks right in outlook and so does the phone's stored information on the phone?

This only happens to some of my contacts. I do not see any differences from a malfunctioning contact vs. a properly fiunctioning contact. I am using outlook 2002

If you have a lot of these you can export your Contacts from Outlook to Excel and then do a Find and Replace to remove the '+' symbols. Then delete all your Outlook contacts and re-import. I recommend backing up your PST file first.

One caveat on this method: AFAIK, Outlook does not export the Notes field or any custom fields, so you would lose any information in notes or custom fields if you used this method.

(There is a freeware add-on, CodeTwo Outlook Export, that will export custom fields; not sure about the Notes or about re-importing the data).

(213) 949-xxxx is in my other address book and my Google Contacts.

While trying to clean up and standardize my contacts in MPE, this number shows as +213 949-xxxx.

I tried to edit it as (213) 949-xxxx, but it always reverted back to the format with a +. I even deleted the contact and pasted the phone number in as a new contact, as soon as I clicked on the Name field, the number changed to the + format.

Out of 125 contacts, this is the only one I can not set with the standard United States format.

I hope this info helps you track this issue down.
