FJ: I know I saw you mention this in at least one thread in the past. You're aware (as are we all, by this point) of the problems posed by the "new" way 4.4.2 is addressing the default messaging app.
You mentioned in the past that you're aware that (15 seconds or so) after deleting messages through MPE, one will get the "do you want to change your default messaging app" prompt on the phone.
My question is, with other messaging apps, I never get this message after deleting messages, so what are they doing differently from MPE? And can you emulate them so MPE KEEPS control unless I tell it otherwise (in otherwords, to keep that message from popping up after every time I delete messages).
I can live with having to switch when I need to do something in another app, but that pop-up every time I try to interact with MPE gets annoying, as I leave it on MPE for 90% of the time. |

For instance, I sometimes use GoSMS Pro for the (rare) occasion when I actually send a text from my phone. ONLY when I go to open GoSMS Pro, does it ask if I want to change my default messaging app. And if I say no, it doesn't bug me about it again.
Of course the downside to GoSMS Pro is, unlike the stock messaging app or MPE, it won't even let you SEND an SMS unless you've said yes to that question. |

The point behind this is, that the MPE is not a full messaging app and never will be.
You can of course say no to the question of changing to standard messaging app but that only let´s you read. I order to send or delete messages you must use the defined default app.
The way it goes now is that you sync your messages with the MPE.
If you wan´t to delete them from the phone after you copied them into the archive you´re asked to change the app, one click, it´s done. A short moment after you´re automaticly asked to change back to the app you´re used to.
That´s the second click.
This is the most convenient way for all MPE users. |

Actually, you don't have to have it defined as default to send messages (at least I don't). Only to delete or "mark read".
As to it being the most convenient for all MPE users...I'd disagree with the word "all".
Maybe for those who only use it for syncing, or who only use MPE the way I do for a small portion of their day (being "mobile" most of the day). But for those, like myself, who use MPE as the primary form of interacting with their phone...who spend MOST of their time with the phone connected to an MPE enabled computer, having that question WAIT to come up until it's relevant would be more convenient by far.
I use MPE to send/receive/mark/delete messages, to make calls, transfer files, etc ALL day every day. While I only use an on-phone messaging app to send messages, on average, once or twice a week, and that only in the rare times when I'm not in range of one of the 3 computers (home/work/vehicle) that have MPE set to auto-connect to the phone.
So, you see, for those like myself it would be more convenient to have that message ONLY pop up on those rare occasions when it matters. Any other time, it's nothing but an annoyance.
The other thing is, because that popup now overrides everything, even the sleep state, if I've set my phone "aside" but not on the charger...and that message comes up...the battery will go dead long before I expect it to, because I didn't know it was there.
I've actually had something similar happen a couple of times right after I got the 4.4.2 "upgrade". I'd turn off the screen, go to sleep, everything was fine, and wake up to this bright-xxx screen in my face because "the message" had popped up sometime in the middle of the night. Which was annoying, because to that point I'd been using my phone as a "bedside clock" that I could just touch for a time update if I opened my eyes. But that bright-xxx message will wake me from a sound sleep. |

I'm not railing against the message itself. I'm angry about the change to Android that requires it, but that's neither here nor there.
I'm actually more concerned about its timing.
Perhaps there should be something that can be set-up in settings on the client
"Keep MPE as default client while active" (ON/OFF) or something along those lines. |

One thing, you should check your clients settings regarding the standby.
And for your other problem, just make the MPE client your default messaging app on your phone. Then you only have to change it for the rare occasions you actually use the phone to send a message.
There´s something about the word smart in smartphone. |

Both of those are true (the standby thing & MPE set as default). It still asks "do you want to make (insert other SMS app here) active" 20 seconds after using MPE to delete or mark messages read.
I wish I could remember which thread FJ mentioned this being a known issue. He actually mentioned the 20-second thing specifically. |

Just tried to delete a SMS with GoSMS without setting it as default SMS app. Its NOT possible, the message still exists. Galaxy S4 mini, Android 4.4.2
Why is the 20 seconds delay a problem for you ? You can just ignore the request to restore the original SMS-App so you will also get no dialog when you delete the next message with MPE.
MyPhoneExplorer Client does the same as all other messaging apps do. |

I'm surprised it doesn't. I know MPE does.
As to the 20 second thing, I rarely touch my phone unless I'm out& about on foot (rare, I'm a taxi driver). I do ALL of my interaction with the phone through MPE. So I can go hours without even seeing my phone.
Because that (Default messaging app, YES/NO) alert turns on the screen & prevents the phone from sleeping, it's happened a few times that I picked up my phone to go somewhere...and found it was dead because the screen had never turned off.
Hence my wish for MPE to keep control of messaging unless/until the rare occasion I ask it not to. |

Just noticed that the new version of MPE (1.8.6) does NOT ask anymore to change the default app 20 seconds after delete/mark-read.
THANK YOU!
You, sir...rock!
EDIT:
Oops, spoke too soon, there it is.
Doesn't matter. You still rock. |
