Can't sync calendar with new phone

I have been delighted with MPE for several years using it first on a Samsung SII then the SIII, and it has synced ok with the Samsung S Planner app.

I have just got a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 and I cannot get it to sync. As an older person I'm sure it's me who is doing something foolish, but I hope the Forum can help me.

I usually use two google email addresses but I am now happy to use just one, which MPE already uses (as far as I can understand / remember)

It doesn't seem to sync either with the Google calendar or with the Mi online calendar from Xiaomi. If I try to "force" MPE to sync with Google I get the message that since I'm using an Andoid phone it should sync through that, and that to force a sync might cause problems.

Can anyone help me, please?
