Synchronization fails

Recently I have not been able to sync my contacts with Outlook, getting the message "Loading entries for outlook failed". I found that if I closed Outlook using the Task Manager I am able to sync. Recently my calendar sync program also failed and had to be updated, so I thought maybe the problem is new Windows 10 "security" features, which led me to try closing Outlook. I looked for a new version of MyPhoneExplorer, but 1.8.8 is the latest.
My Outlook is ancient (2003) if that's relevant. It's functioning for me now but I thought I would report a solution that works for me.
