Redo of Contacts

My phone contact list has become corrupted. What is the best way to delete my phone contacts and have them redone from Thunderbird? Do I delete the phone contacts then force Thunderbird to phone or do I delete the phone contacts then export the Thunderbird contacts then import them into the phone? Is there a better way?
