Hi,
Contacts not syncing after android update 7.1 to 8.1 on Samsung SM-G901F.
Reproduce:
1. Create .vcf backup file from contacts
2. Factory reset and upgrade to Android 8.1.0 (LineageOS 15)
4. Import contacts from .vcf backup file back into phone contacts.
5. Install MPE client on phone
6. Create new user on MPE (PC)
7. Sync contacts
Result:
See image: https://ibb.co/iBHhi9
Only 'Phone' contacts are not synced. It does sync 'WhatsApp' and 'Signal' contacts. |

You have to import the contacts AFTER you craeted the new user in MyPhoneExplorer, otherwise MPE is not able to store the data.
Regarding contact sync - please post the logfile after sync |

* Removed user in MPE
* Removed the contacts on phone via: Apps - Contacts Storage - Storage - Clear Cache and Data
* Created new user in MPE
* imported .vcf contacts into Phone
* MPE Phone Sync
Still no luck.
I will send you the logfile via PM. |

It seems MPE is not able to detect the internal contact account - probably because LineageOS.
-> uninstall MyPhoneExplorer Client from phone
-> download and install the client fresh from Play Store
-> this will trigger the Client App to make a new detection of the phone contact account
-> try to sync
If it fails then send me again the logfile via email |

Funny thing is that if I enable WhatsApp Sync. All contacts are there. |

Still having the same issue but (after a year) I've discovered something which hopefully helps in solving the issue. Look what I get when I choose 'Sync all contacts'. Suddenly it shows "com.android.contacts (DEVICE)" in Contacts and when I select it, it shows all my Phone contacts!
For some reason however this is not the same as "Phone" in MPE Sync settings (see: https://ibb.co/JRvFQ9x). In there "com.android.contacts" is not in the list and therefore cannot be selected.
@FJ
Can it be fixed? |

I've also noticed some strange things when syncing contacts with MPE - after backing up contacts from my old phone and syncing them to my new phone with Lineage OS 17.1, they stayed intact for a couple of weeks then went AWOL after installing Signal.
My findings:
1. Contacts synced from MPE to the "Phone" account appear on the phone under the unfiltered contacts section, but not if you filter to Device. This is where they seem to be prone to disappearing. If you go into edit the contact, it shows up as "saving to Device".
2. Contacts created on the phone in the Device account appear under "com.android.contacts (DEVICE)" in MPE, but only if you choose "Sync all contacts" per hansaplast's info. If you go into edit the contact, it shows up as "saving to Device", same as above.
3. I'm not able to sync to "com.android.contacts (DEVICE)" from MPE.
As a workaround I can copy the contacts backup VCF file to my phone and open it on my phone to import into the contacts app. They now show correctly in the contacts when filtering by Device, and appear in MPE under "com.android.contacts (DEVICE)".
I got some of this info from here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/act85v/when_importing_contacts_whats_the_difference/edarmtf/?context=8&depth=9
BTW, I've been using MPE since my first Sony Ericcson (so about 13 years now?!) Keep up the good work |
