Hello,
I change my phone ROM (equivalent to factory reset), and so my phone has 0 contact.
I run MyPhoneExplorer (associated with Thunderbird) and try to restore my contacts.
MPE says no contacts found in the phone then suggests to transfer to the phone, which I accept.
I then get all my contacts back in the phone, but there are no associated photos for the contacts .
My contact account is Phone (not Gmail).
Is there a solution?
Thank you. |

Yes, they are still there. Note: of course under Thunderbird there are no photos since the photos I defined from inside the phone. The sync method I used is "Sync both" (Thunderbird <-> Phone).
In other words, when I did not connect (USB or Wi-Fi) to the PC, MPE in the PC does show the contact. What I would like is: on my newly reset phone (0 contact), transfer all my contacts from MPE to phone. Or MPE is for me richer than Thunderbird since it has same Thunderbird contacts but also has the associated photos. When I sync between MPE and the empty phone, the contacts are created but the photos are lost.
Also when I define a photo to a contact from Thunderbird, then do a sync with the phone, the contact in the phone (and also MPE) does not have the newly defined photo. Looks like there are two independent mechanisms, so it is not understandable. |

Keep out Thunderbird when you want to find the problem, there are some rules when a photo is copied or not.
If you edit a photo in MyPhoneExplorer - gets this synced to phone ? |

Yes, editing photo in MPE then sync: the photo is well changed in the phone.
From your answer about Thunderbird, I understand that I should not use it to update the photo, since it does not know anything. This probably is what I missed. Is it correct if I say this: use Thunderbird only as a contact and agenda viewer, all modifications/updates must be done with MPE itself. By this, the data will be in sync? Is this correct? |

Wow! I think I was on a complicated way using Thunderbird with Lightning add-on (= Calendar).
Your phrase lightens me now.
My needs was simple:
- no sync using Google account (contacts, calendar=agenda), since it would require an Internet connection => online mode.
I only need a way to easily type from my laptop to edit/create contacts/appointments, without requiring Internet connectio => offline mode.
- Thunderbird has built-in contacts and with Lightning add-on, provides Agenda/Calendar function.
- So at the beginning, I need a way to transfer my contacts and agenda to the phone.
So I use Thunderbird MyPhoneExplorer plug-in, then sync with MPE in the phone.
Everything is in sync, then I always use Thunderbird to add/modify contacts and appointments,
and never with MPE application in my laptop. After a sync, everything is OK.
The problems:
- Thunderbird is not aware of photo in the phone
- and so restoring contacts from Thunderbird loose contact photos
- photos added under Thunderbird are not known in the phone
- Lightning add-on is sensitive to Thunderbird version
- MPE Thunderbird plug-in is sensitive to Thunderbird version
So I get rid of Thunderbird Lightning add-on, and now use only portable MPE application in my laptop as standalone Contacts manager/PIM:
In User settings, Sync:
Contacts: choose Only MyPhoneExplorer
Calendar: Only MyPhoneexplorer
With this, no more problem loosing contact photos, or syncing problem, and I can still use Thunderbird
as email client only with latest version 5.0.
So my problem is solved. Thank you for a great program. |
