Saving contacts on phone's memory, not gmail account

Hello I want to sync the work contacts that I have on my PC (thunderbird) with my HTC Tattoo.
I also want to sync my personal contacts between my phone and my gmail account, but I don't any of my work contacts ending up in my personal gmail account.

For some reason, when transfering the contacts on my PC to the phone, MPE saves them as Google contacts and thererfore they show up in my gmail account. Is there a way of telling MPE to save my PC contacts on my phone's memory instead of my gmail account?

I can create new contacts on my phone's memory that will not sync with gmail so I know this should be possible.

Hello,

I believe you should run MyPhoneExplorer (MPE) in the phone, then select Settings then Contact accounts to sync. Then just check Phone as option.

Thank you for your reply, however, the option Contact Accounts to Sync doesn't show in my settings menu.

Under settings in MPE I have the following menus:

Wifi PIN
Stanby mode on active connection
Silent mode on active connection
Calendars to sync
add new events to...
Name format
address format

That's it. No Contacts options.
What am I missing?

I found under Settings:

Add new contacts to... <==
Name format

So strangely you are missing 2 menu items. Hopefully support could answer you.

Your phone is based on Android 1.6, the possibility of contact-accounts is implemented since Android 2.0 -> so its not possible on your phone

However, I know I can create a contact on the phone and save it either as a google contact or a phone contact.
If I choose the former it will only sync with thunderbird and it If I select the latter the contact will be synched with my gmail account and thunderbird.

So the phone, even with Android 1.6 does support both kind of contacts.

I could enter my contacts on the phone manually but with over 200 entries it would take days.

OK, the the Tattoo is one of the few models where the contact-accounts were added already earlier by the producer (HTC). But this does not help cause the interface to contacts is based on Android 1.6
