Hi FJ,

New boy, running HTC Desire on Android 2.2. So fed up with HTC Sync that I'm looking for a good sync programme.

Have looked through lots of pages of your forum but can find nothing on this problem.

Download and connection with phone via USB has gone well and both show connected. Calendar and contacts (which is all I want to sync) have been uploaded from phone onto MPE display, but sync with Outlook 2002 SP3 does not seem to have taken place. My Outlook is on an exchange server.

Halfway through sync, when green progress bar is about halfway across, dialog box opens saying 'a programme is seeking access to email addresses'. You can Deny, or Allow access for maximum of 10 minutes, but whatever action you choose the sync stops and you have to use Task Manager to close MPE which is not responding.

Grateful if you could help, because it was looking good. I have attached log if this helps.

Regards,
Kyle

FJ - thanks for getting back to me.

I think that I have the hang of this now and it is working, although I have a couple of questions.

Some tips:
- For background I am doing this at work through Windows XP Pro off a server. The phone is a Desire running 2.2 (dreadful mistake upgrading from 2.1, made the phone worse) and I am syncing thro a USB link. I am only syncing Contacts and Calendar, and the only calendar setting on my phone is 'PC Sync'. I followed the instructions on the website and have ABD installed on the computer and client 1.8.1 on the phone.
- My settings on MPE are to restrict sync to 10 days prior to today and 350 days in the future, and to compare only changed items. I also ask it to check all changes with me before implementing them and I have multisync operating.
- I was caught out by the first few syncs where everything seemed to go dead, not responding (even the 'please wait' box goes blank), and I had to stop the programme through Task Manager. Couldn't understand the request to access email addresses, and that seemed to be the catalyst for everything stopping.
- The reality is just to leave it and let it run. You need to sit with it in case the email dialogue box comes up again and it needs another 10 minutes access. 10 minutes is the most you can grant at one time.
- The first time it is transferring everything both ways onto the MPE screen and in my case it took about 15 minutes just to give me a dialogue screen on contacts, coming up with about 30-40 where I had to agree or disagree the action it was proposing to take. That took about 10 minutes, and when I pressed OK it implemented them and then went on to calendar.
- I had to agree access again, and then it took a huge 45 minutes to compare my outlook calendar with the phone. The dialogue screen on proposed changes took me nearly an hour to complete - mostly saying 'do not sync this item again'. After that it was quick and easy.
- The best bit is that it now gets shorter and shorter after it has done the hard work and brought all the information onto MPE - contacts sync in 2 minutes and calendar done in 5 minutes yesterday.

BUT - QUESTIONS:

- Is there a way of granting permanent access to email addresses stored in Outlook so that I don't have to deal with the dialogue box all of the time?

- Despite the 10 days prior/350 days in the future setting, the sync dialogue box, that checks with me what it intends to do, is looking at appointments that are anything between 3-7 years old and asking me which version to take - the phone or outlook version. Why is it doing this when I am asking it to sync no further back than 10 days?

Overall I am pleased that I am making progress and I am not getting any of the inconsistency I experienced with HTC Sync. This is well worth a donation but please advise me first on fixes for these two remaining issues.

Regards,
Kyle

For ruled events MyPhoneExplorer does only compare start-date and the end-date of the rule, so the most ruled events without end date will be synced to phone, no matter which filter is set

I will try ExpressClickYes - thankyou.

I'm not sure I understand this fully. Are you saying that putting these parameters in is a waste of time? How can I make the sync only look to the future and stop it syncing events that happened years ago?

Kyle

No, these parameters are not waste. But f.e. a birthday starts in 1980, its a never ending ruled event. MyPhoneExplorer does not check every occurence of a ruled event so it does match to the filter.

FJ,
I understand that, but in the last sync yesterday there were about 100 events it asked me to choose between the phone version, the outlook version or never sync. All, except about 3, were for specific events with start and end times (meetings etc) back in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Secondly, even though in the previous sync I had said 'Never sync this item again' to a lot of events, many of them came up again at the next sync.

Can you explain all this?

Regards,
Kyle

No Wink . I cannot explain all points. If the events are not ruled and they are outside the timerange then MPE should delete them on phone. Cause the exceptions: How many exceptions did you set already (ca) ?

Thanks FJ,

I don't want the events on the phone to be deleted, I just want them ignored because they are a useful record and they no longer need to be synced because there are no changes.

I don't have any exceptions set. Do I need to have any, and if so how do I put an exception in?

This is going well - its just fine tuning now!

Kyle

FJ,

This is working well now, I understand how it works and what the best settings are. I shall make a donation. Thank you.

Still don't know how to/when to use exceptions - explanation would be useful.

Hi marcilevine,

Follow this link: http://www.contextmagic.com/express-clickyes/free-version.htm

It has worked well for me, just download and it installs itself. It works automatically when the sync takes place, but be warned that the sync can be slow and appears at times to be doing nothing - just go and put the kettle on.
