I can not get it to work. I get error that the program cant find the IP of the Phone.
Any help???

Hi,

is there a personal firewall running?
If so, try disabling it temporary or enable ports 5210 to 5212.

best regards...

The WiFi sync would be better if it had an option to manually specify (type in manually) the IP Address of the phone.

That would help us who have had issues and already tried all the troubleshooting. I have other software that I sync with via WiFi that allows me to specify the IP Address and because of that I'm able to sync it via WiFi successfully. Please consider adding this feature to MPE as an option within WiFi sync.

Can you let me know which SW? I have tried for 3 days to get Wifi to work on MPE...

The software I use to sync data via WiFi that allows an IP address to be specified is for syncing password data with a desktop counterpart, not Address/Contact data. But it would be good if MPE allowed an IP to be specified. That might help some of us overcome issues using it for WiFi sync.

This will be added in the next version.

@Philip: Some routers block the communications of devices in LAN, check your router-settings. For WiFi you have to start the Client-App on phone manually

Ah! This was the missing piece of the puzzle for me. This also allows me to connect when the phone is using wifi and my PC is *wired* to my router. This seemed to be a problem in this thread ... http://www.fjsoft.at/forum/viewtopic.ph ... light=wifi .... and it's the problem I thought I had.

Many thanks!

So in the new MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.1, I've tried the WiFi sync option where an IP address can be specified and it has not helped me. When I try WiFi sync either via specifying the IP of the device or not, WiFi sync still fails and MPE on the desktop cannot find my device.

But, I'm able to use apps such as MobileNoter to sync my MS OneNote notebook via WiFi with no issues at all. (That's just one example of multiple apps I sync with successfully using WiFi.)

I think the difference, is that apps I am able to sync with via WiFi initiate the sync process from the Android app and I specify the IP of my PC in those apps. With MPE I'm doing it the other way, specifying the IP of the device and initiating sync from the PC.

So I can only think that being able to initiate WiFi sync from the device and within the Android device app specify the IP of the PC, so the app knows where to sync to would be the solution to issues I've been having. Since MPE is the only WiFi sync app I've been having issues with.

Thank you for the continued effort.

There are also many apps which do the way as MyPhoneExplorer (f.e. PAW server). Please tell me some details about your network structure, how much hardware is between your phone and your PC ? Maybe i have to increase the connect-timeout. Its currently set to 500ms

There is my phone, that connects to the wireless router via WiFi and the PC is plugged into that same router via an Ethernet cable. I have a Belkin N+ Wireless Router. The PC runs Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64-bit.

I've tried all the classic remedies such as turning off my firewall software with no success.

In this case i don't think its a problem of timeout. Are you able to ping your phone from PC ?

Thank you for your continued assistance.

I've tried to ping the phone tonight which is using IP 192.168.2.10, from my PC which is using IP 192.168.2.6. The results are below.

Code: Alles auswählen

C:\>ping 192.168.2.10

Pinging 192.168.2.10 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.2.6: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.2.6: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.2.6: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.2.6: Destination host unreachable.

Ping statistics for 192.168.2.10:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

I get the same results whether the firewall software on my PC is on or off.

Thats strange. Just to eliminate misunderstandings: Did you start MyPhoneExplorer Client on phone before you wanted to connect ?

Yes, I tried again tonight just to try again and still got the same result.

I even connected to the same WiFi router using my laptop to make a wireless connection to the router and still had the same issue. The laptop could not ping the phone either, although MPE is running on the phone. I've been trying to ping the IP address provided by the MPE client on the phone and I'm sure it's correct about the IP it says the phone is using for its connection.

The PC and laptop can ping each other and respond with no issues at all. But neither can ping the phone. I guess this is why all the apps I use that initiate sync from the phone work, because they can see my Windows 7 machines, but it seems nothing can see my phone if a connectiinitiateditated outside of the phone.

Started happening for me

I don't think it has to do with the update, if you want to be sure - try it again with 1.8.0

@darnell: Did you test PAW-Server ?

I've given PAW-Server a try today. I've never used it before. I downloaded, installed and started it. It then told me to open "http://192.168.2.10:8080/" in my web browser. I tried to open that URL from my PC and could not connect.

So even with that I have the same issue.

I guess something is blocking connections to my Android device, I just have no idea what it could be. Especially since when I use apps that initiate sync from the device with my PC, those work. So for some reason I can't get connections incoming that attempt to initiate a connection, but if the device initiates something to the PC to sync data that goes fine.

I'll try and see what might be causing this with PAW-Server, obviously what causes that is causing my MPE issues.

Yes, i also think this way.

You could test PAW-Server also on another PC in another network (cause it does need no client, only a browser). It seems the problem is caused from phone, but i really do not believe this cause this would be the first time that a Android-Phone blocks hosted ports. So if you can test another PC/Network then we are one step next.

I've found this issue is definetely in my device, well the ROM it uses. I'm running a Nexus One Froyo Android build on an HTC HD2. So it's a customerized ROM build. Although it is a Nexus One ASOP ROM, it had to be tweaked for the HTC HD2.

After looking around HD2 Android forums, I'm finding many people have issues with any web server apps such as PAW Server. It seems only a minority of Android ROM builds made for the HD2 work.

I don't think many of us HD2 folks who run customized Android ROMs have used web server apps before. (Since we're all former Windows Mobile users.) So it's an area that is not yet getting much focus. But I think in time the ROM chefs will all get this working in their builds. I'll be chatting up the issue to get it more attention.

Worst case, I'll be getting a native Android device later this year, which will resolve this.

Thank you for all your help.
