View data without phone

I have made backups of my phones on my computer. I want to look at these backups but do not have the phones any more.

I know I can connect another phone and restore to that phone, but all I want to do is view the backups without connecting a phone. Is there any way to do this?

I found that thread, but I don't have any .mpb files, only .dat files and it is these I want to read.

Ok, you said you have made backups of your phones, so I thought you have such mdb files.
Did you try to copy your .dat files into such a "Dummy [xxxxx]" folder and select that profile in MPE?

I had tried to do that, but couldn't find where to select a profile.

I've just been back in and this time I have a 'User...' item on the File menu which wasn't there before; very odd.

With this I have been able to select the old user and that has bought up all the old phone data.
