Hi,
I have updated both the PC client and the phone app to the latest versions (PC 1.8.6; phone 1.0.34) two or three days ago.
This morning, I launched a multi-sync, then several separate Contacts syncs today and the sync recap window ("Confirmation for sync") shows that MPE wants to delete 320 entries in the phone. The "Entry in Windows Contacts" section is empty for each of the 320 entries.
The phonebook.dat file is 82.9 KB in size. When I open "C:\Users\<my user name>\Contacts" using a file explorer, I can see 320 items in that folder.
I don't know what is happening. But the problem is that I can no longer synchronize my contacts. All the rest sync'ed easily although I have read a "Downloading 3259 messages" (SMS'es) when I launched the multi-sync. Anyway, each time I've tried to sync the contacts and saw MPE wante dto delete things, I aborted the sync.
It seems like MPE 1.8.6 can't see that the entries are already in Windows.
FJ, any thoughts or solutions? Thank you! |

Have you downloaded all entries from the phone first?
If not, do so using the Blue Arrow. |

Koelner, I have been using MPE since October 2010 and I have never needed to "download all entries from the phone". When should I click that button? What are the circumstances when it is recommended to click that button?
Most of the 320 contacts I have go way back, from when I had a Nokia 6110 Navigator and I used PC Suite to sync contacts with Windows Vista (circa 2008). As said in the opening post, the contacts already exist in Windows. What will "download all" do? Won't it duplicate all phone contacts into my Contacts folder where they all already exist? Thank you. |

I have clicked the blue icon and it didn't change a thing. Each time I synchronize, MPE wants to delete all entries from the phone. |

Check the settings in the client. Maybe the setting about what account is to be synced with what other account has got lost. |

The settings in the client hadn't changed. Proof is that with one sync of the contacts, MPE asked again whether to delete all entries from the phone. I inadvertently clicked yes and all contacts have been deleted in the phone. Later syncs failed as Windows Contacts couldn't be read.
I ended up uninstalling version 1.8.6, and, after uninstalling the junk software that was packaged with it, I clicked the sync button for contacts and it just worked... No settings changed, no backup files copied, no changes whatsoever. Just uninstall 1.8.6 and install 1.8.5.
In my opinion, it's a bug with version 1.8.6. Or in the phone client. Or an incompatibility of some sort. I'm probably not the only one who will ever face it.
The only unwanted result of reverting to 1.8.5 that I've noticed is that anniversary entries in the calendar have all been duplicated after a multi-sync. |
