Contributing member and still just love this software!
But I am finally replacing my old laptop which is running fine with MPE syncing an S5 to a PST running Office 2003.
Now I am going to a new laptop running windows 8.1 and I will probably be running Office 2007.
So of course I will re-install MPE but I was just wondering if I can export and import my MPE desktop setting including sync status (but copying a file or folder?). Or should I just set it up fresh and tell it to "desktop overwrite phone" for that first sync instead of telling it to sync?
It will be the exact same PST file just copied over.
Thanks!

Not sure if this makes a difference but I am running Outlook 2007 (not 2003) on both the old and new laptop...
Thanks for any advice,

Take the chance and do fresh settings in the MPE.
But you don´t have to overwrite anything. Just connect the phone with the MPE and use the Blue Arrow to reload from phone. That should do the trick. |

Thanks....just so I understand. I will be starting with the phone as is, and the old PST file on the new PC. I mean I want all my old e-mails etc so it will include the calendar, to do list, etc as it was.
So, I get doing fresh settings in MPE. Install it and set it up. Got it.
However for my first sync what settings are you recommending? Just sync?
I probably should not have used the term "overwrite", I was speaking of the sync settings "force outlook>phone or phone >outlook" The first time I sync a new phone I usually force outlook to overwrite the phone vs. just relying on the sync to know what is the newest data is. In my syncing past, I have had sync programs overwrite the older "blank data" which was real data with the newer "blanK' data. Anyway, old traumas...
So I think you are saying to re-install MPE, reset my settings, and then let the sync rip? Any preference on first sync settings?
Thanks again!

Don´t "just sync", that´s the most possible way to loose data.
Before you sync make sure to load all data from the phone and after that sync with the option to choose which changes are to be made. |

Thanks for all the help. Brought my old PST over and installed the latest MPE on the PC. Connected phone, gave it a name, and it immediately started to sync before I could change any settings!
So I immediately cancelled, put in the sync settings I wanted and all was good when I did my first complete sync.
However that immediate sync upon first plugging in a phone is a changed behavior. I don't think prior versions ever did that and I would recommend a prompt in there to ask whether you want to change any settings or just sync with default settings. I mean at that point I had not even chosen "outlook" as my sync selection.
But all came out okay. Thanks again,
