version 1.8.9 : won't connect to Thunderbird (52.x)

NOTE: initially I had problems loading my existing user in mpe - I tried deleting and re-adding user, that seemed to sort it

my next issue was that 1.8.9 wouldn't connect to folders in TB profile while it's open...it's not feasible to have to close TB each time

I have rolled back to 1.8.8 and it's working now...unfortunately there is an issue with the messages showing as unread even if they are...I can't figure why this happens - it's not all messages. I can't see the pattern as to why it only does it for certain ones. I even try select al and mark read. next time they come up as unread again! it looked like 1.8.9 had resolved this issue, but it's kind of unworkable for me otherwise

firstly I am posting this to let TB users know they need to roll back to workaround this, also to see if anyone else has the message unread issue
