In the settings, I set to sync contacts photos, but that choice does not stay in the next synchronization.
I wish it were fixed.

Sorry to tell you this, but this is working as designed.
Syncing the contacts with photos is much more work than without.
So the MPE is designed to only sync the photos of new entered conacts. Otherwise you have to set the option before syncing.
