Hi,

I rebuilt my Windows 10 system from scratch due to a catastrophic OS failure. Here is a list of newly installed software:

Windows 10 latest
Thunderbird 95.1.0
MPE 1.9.0
MPE Thunderbird addon 3.0.19
MPE android client 2.4 (no change)
Motorola driver 6.4.0

Prior to rebuilding, syncing Thunderbird and my Android phone was always reliable and worked beautifully. Now it does not work anymore. Here are the steps to reproduce (behavior happens 100% of the time):

1. Initiate sync from Thunderbird UI.
2. MPE launches and successfully connects with phone
3. MPE displays the following error message:

"Thunderbird already started with another user-profile. Please close Thunerbird before continuing."

4. Close Thunderbird as requested
5. Press OK
6. A different error message appears:

"The addon 'MyPhoneExplorer' has to be activated in the addon-list of Thunderbird"

7. At that point, MPE usually crashes, but not every time:
- If it does not crash, and Thunderbird is re-launched, the sync actually resumes and it even appears to complete successfully.
- A Thunderbird setup screen is launched (???), even though Thunderbird is already set up with two email accounts and functioning well.

The same behavior also occurs when initiating the sync directly from MPE.

The same behavior also occurs when attempting to access Settings > Sync > [Thunderbird] Advanced.

I really rely on MPE and I really want it to go back to working like it used to, so your help would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi there.

Maybe a hint :
Zitat:
1."Thunderbird already started with another user-profile.
Please close Thunerbird before continuing."
2."The addon 'MyPhoneExplorer' has to be activated in the addon-list of Thunderbird"

Sounds as if Thunderbird has a hickup concerning the profiles ...

Please take a close look at your existing Thunderbirdprofiles:

Code:
%appdata%\Thunderbird

regards

Ull!

Problem solved! For others who may have the same issue:

Thunderbird creates two default profiles on installation, named "default" and "default-release". Apparently "default-release" is the actual default profile, whereas "default" (if I understand correctly) is inactive and needed for compatibility with older or non-release-channel versions. Firefox uses the same scheme.

For some reason, both my Thunderbird profiles were active. That appears to have been what caused the MPE update issue.

To deactivate a profile, open Run (Win+R) and type
Code:
thunderbird.exe -p
This will launch Profile Manager. Both "default" and "default-release" will appear in the profiles list. Highlight "default", click Delete, then Don't Delete Files. Now the only profile listed is "default-release". Launch Thunderbird, initiate sync and the issue should be solved.

This worked for me on Thunderbird 91.5.1. Thank you Ull! for pointing me in the right direction!
