Phone remote control doesn't work anymore?

I've upgraded to MPE 2.3 on my computer and 4.9 on my phone today and I no longer can click anything in the "control phone" window. Not anything on the touchscreen area, not the navigation buttons. Screen mirroring itself works, it's just that I can't interact with it remotely anyhow. Same with the "show cursor" mode: the cursor appears on the phone, but can't click anything.
Not sure if it's the client or the server that's causing this, I've upgraded them exactly at once, but I did try clearing the client app's data.

I can reproduce your problem with Android 6.01 or earlier. I've already informed FJ.

The new WiFi Remote control works only for Android 7 and newer.
But for older phones the remote control via USB cable should work as before.
The problem should be fixed now, please install the current beta and tell me if the issue is fixed for you:

Seems to be working now, thanks.
Unrelated but something that severely annoys me is that the options for Wi-Fi hotspot and USB tethering disappear from Settings, and the flashlight stops working, when I detach the cable while MPE is connected. As well if I select "Disconnect" before disconnecting the phone. Only way to avoid it seems to completely quit MPE on the computer before removing the cable; otherwise the only fix is to reboot the phone.
Is this something Samsung-specific? Could something be done about it?

I cannot reproduce either problem on my Galaxy S5 with Android 6.01.

I did some testing and what seems to be triggering this is the activation of MPEs remote control. If hotspot/tethering were on before this, they will stay working, and you still can enable Wi-FI hotspot from the notification shade, so if this is a deliberate limitation on Samsung's side, I really don't get the point. Closing the remote control window restores the functionality (again, only if you really closed it/have quit MPE before unplugging the cable).
