- Start-Run-regedit-OK
- go to the subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Licenses
- rightclick this key and select "Permissions"
- choose "Add" and type "Administrators" in the inputfield, click at "Check name" and then on OK
- select "Administrators" from the list and set the checkbox for "Full Access" to them
- click on OK

Try to install MyPhoneExplorer

Note: I have no english XP so it could be that the buttons are called similar. I translated the instructions from this Thread. (very thanks to hati39)

Very important: I need feedbacks if its working or not
Sorry for the silly question and for my bad english... After having the sport.dll problem I've used your solution and after restarting the computer it seemed to work. Now I was asking my self how to revert the settings changed in the registry... what do I have to change?

Set the permissions of this key back so that only SYSTEM has pertmissions to access it.

I'm on Windows XP home and can confirm that setting compability mode to windows 2000 did the trick. The registry permission change didn't work though. Since I'm on XP home it doesn't seem to be an explicit Administrator user created so the "Run As..." and explicitly use Administrator (even though my user is an administrator) didn't work either.

Thanks for the help!

Interesting - was the compatibilitymode needed for the Setup or for the MyPhoneExplorer.exe ?

Hi, having the same problem (Windows XP, SP3, install hangs at register sports.dll) Could you share the solution also with me?

By the way, how do I remove the half-installed MyPhoneExplorer (there is no uninstall.exe in the program folder, and it is not listed under Add/Remove programs)

edit:
of course I am trying to install as admin, and have also tried registering that dll manually

Did you install MPE into the standard programfolder on C:\ ?

I had the same install issue today on Windows XP SP3, logged in as administrator. Here's how I fixed it and I'm up and running without issues (thanks to the people earlier in the thread who identified the regsp.exe process).

1. Remove the folder c:\program files\my phone explorer
2. Remove the SPort.dll under the c:\windows\system32 folder (if it's locked, use a program called "unlocker" to remove the file lock although a reboot might also work)
3. Run the installer, wait for it to hang
4. Start>Run>regsvr32 sport.dll
5. Open task manager, kill the regsp.exe process...

... The installer should complete and MPE seems to be fine on my PC :)

Interesting.
Cause we already found out that not regsp.exe is hanging... regsp.exe calls regsvr32.exe and regsvr32.exe hangs then. But very good if its working for you - thank you for the tipp.

Hi, FJ: I am using the standard location, i.e.: C:\Program Files\MyPhoneExplorer

Hi, Neversoft, thanks for the tip, but it does not seem to work either. MPE gets installed, but when I start it nothing happens (the process is running in background though), even if I connect my phone.

Unluckily I cannot even remove the program: now as the installation did complete, the uninstall.exe is available, however it gets stuck at unregistering mpe_gadget_connector.dll

Do you have Admin-Access ?

Yes, I am performing all install/uninstall attempts logged in as Administrator (not via Run-As).

OK, but you are able to install MPE without errors. If MPE just does not appear after starting then it could be also this issue - even if there no setupwindow appears.

Another possible workaround

This one sounds great! Changing to compatibility mode also!
After several unsuccesful installation (it always hung for me too) I decided to try the old version: 1.6.7
Installation went fine, no hanging but the program did not start because it wanted me to register "serial port activex control"

Then I ran the myphoneexplorer 1.7.4 and finally it got through registering sport.dll!
It works fine!

But next time I need to install myphoneexplorer I will try the solutions mentioned above.
