Hi FJ.

I'm a long time user of MPE and an occasional donor and now I have a problem with restoring SMS-es from a .mpb file.

I am of course restoring with the client version 1.0.48.

Informations:
PC: Windows 10 or 11 and MPE versions 2.1 and the latest 2.2
(I tried with multiple computers and MPE versions)
Phone: Oneplus 12 with Android 15
MPE Client: always 1.0.48

The backup of the entire SMS database was done with the latest MPE client for android on Android 15 and now, after factory resetting the phone, the restoring works but it is taking ages.
I timed it and it restores one SMS every 13 seconds and I have 13908 messages. Rolling Eyes
Fun fact: the restoration would take 50 hours or 2,1 days. Very Happy

Do you have any idea why is it taking so long?

1. Try using a USB connection, it may be faster
2. Import the backup file into the Archive (PC)
You can then gradually transfer them from the archive to your cell phone

Oh yeah, forgot to mention: I always use USB connection and this time I also tried wifi and it is equally slow.

With client 1.0.48 I cannot recover to Archive but I can do it with the latest version from PlayStore. But with the latest client I cannot move them to the phone because of Google rules and if I downgrade to 1.0.48 I have to redo the connection which creates another profile with no SMSes in the Archive (PC).

Or am I missing something?

You can import the SMS from the backup file into the archive:
Right mouse button Import
Then you can gradually move it onto the cell phone using the right mouse button “Copy to phone” function (Client 1.0.48 )

Please send me the logfile with a link to this thread via email after you restored a couple of messages.

I understand what are you trying to tell me but the fact is this:

With client 1.0.48: I can only restore messages to the phone.

Image

And If I go to now empty Archive on PC, right click on it and click on "Import..." and select the .mpb file it gives me this error:

Image

---------------------------------------

With latest 4.1 client: I can only import to the archive on PC but then cannot Import to the phone because of Google rules.

Image

And trying with the older or newer client it always creates it's own phone profile although it is the same phone, so I either have an empty Archive and the ability to copy messages to the phone or I have a full archive with no possibility to upload them to the phone.

Email Sent. And thank you for looking into it.

---------------------------------------

I saw there is a possibility to export messages from the archive to quite a few formats.
Maybe there is a program out there that could read in these other formats and then upload them from there but it would be just better to use MPE.

You should not create restore backup, but rather select Import in the empty list in the archive (computer) using the right mouse button and search for and select the backup file

Then you can then gradually transfer them from the archive to your cell phone

I have got your logfile. It seems that MyPhoneExplorer Client has still no permission to write the SMS into your database. Because of this he tries to show you the permission dialog on the phone and then he waits several seconds for your input. Please go to Settings -> Apps -> MyPhoneExplorer Client -> Permissions and check if everything is activated there
Also ensure that MyPhoneExplorer Client is your default SMS App during backup restore.

I know what are you trying to say but you have to know I already did that and also wrote about it in post #6 and I will post it again here:

I guess there is no upper limit of how much messages can there be saved in a mpb file Question

I have had difficulties setting MPE as default SMS app that's true but in the end I always succeded and the restoring started to happen or at least the number of restored messages started to rise albeit slowly. Rolling Eyes

Do I have any other option?

I have the mpb file with a lot of messages (SMS) which I can't restore only look at them in bulk (not like conversations in inbox) from the Archive on PC. Anything else fails.

FJ,
just to give you feedback: it almost seems like Android 15 is getting too new for the old 1.0.48 client because there are so many compartmentalized rules an app must follow and it is not getting a clear clearance so it just waits there even though I gave the client all the permissions possible. I gave it permissions to write SMS and set it as default SMS program but it still waits there for the authorization.

Thank you for taking the time to look at the log file.

Doesn't that mean that all SMS are now in Arvive?!
Then you should install the client 1.0.48 and gradually copy the SMS to the cell phone using Copy to phone .

Yep, did that also. Cool

If I uninstall the current client on the phone and install the 1.0.48 the windows app creates a new profile for the phone in which there are no messages in the archive because it is a "different phone", although just a new profile.

I thought MPE on Windows makes a profile of the phone based on the IMEI or SN or SIM, basically some fixed property of the phone but apparently it is not the case.

When did you install your version of 1.0.48?

Simply copy the contents of the old user folder into the new folder.
You can find your MPE database folder by default under the Windows Start menu (Run) => enter %appdata%\myphoneexplorer.
If the path has been changed see MPE => F2 => Advanced 2 => Database

When I first made a factory reset on my phone I installed the 1.0.48 version because I wanted to restore the messages so a couple of weeks ago.

I transferred MessageArchive.dat to the new folder, MPE found them in the archive as expected and now I was able to select Copy to phone with options Inbox (unread), Inbox and In original storage.

Unfortunately none of them worked.

It displays the window below and it won't move even though MPE Client is already set as default SMS app.

It's so strange and it behaves like FJ said: it looks like it doesn't acknowledge it is already the default SMS app and it just waits there. I tried removing the access to SMS and confirming when it asks, I tried allowing the access beforehand and then try to copy to phone but it behaves the same.

If anybody will have the same problem as mine and wondering if this issue has been resolved: FJ said he's going to take a look at it when he receives Android 15 on his Samsung.
