I connected my w910i to My Phone Explorer v1.5.8. On doing so it showed me all my phone contacts. However when I clicked on the "Download entire" button which happens to be located near the refresh button, all the phone contacts which were visible earlier disappeared suddenly and no alert was shown either. The Phonebook.dat file shows no entries and I feel I have now lost all my contacts. I can't understand why MPE should behave like this and I am seriously disgusted at what it did to my contacts though I didn't asked it to delete. Is there any way to get my phone contacts back? Will be really thankful if anyone can help me in this. |

The button "Download entire" does exactly whats described. This function downloads the entiry phonebook from phone and resfreshes the content in MyphoneExplorer. if the phonebook in the phone is empty then also the Phonebook in MyPhoneExplorer will become emtpy.
how many contacts are on your phone ?
By the way - a update to the current version 1.7.2 is highly recommened |

My phonebook had around 200 contacts and those were visible under the Phone contact in MPE when I started the software. It was when I clicked on 'Download entire' button, all the phone contacts vanished and I can't find any way now to retrieve them... |

Hey,
I have actually the same problem...
I made a backup with MyPhoneExplorer before updating my phone.
After updating my phone I wanted to synchronise again:
I'm dutch speaking and this was the message I got:
"Geen contacten gevonden op GSM! Concacten van computer"
Translated: No contacts found on GSM! Contacts of computer"
So I didn't really knew what that meant so to be safe I clicked on No...
Then I realised what was happening: MyPhoneExplorer was synchronizing with my empty phone thereby deleting all the previous contacts...
(What actually should be written there: Geen contacten gevonden op GSM! Contacten van computer overzetten op GSM? --> No contacts found on GSM! Copy contacts from computer to GSM?"
So now I wonder...is there a way to get my conctacs back? Or have I lost +430 contacts :S I REALLY REALLY hope there is a way!!
Maybe temporary files in windows...
Please someone help!
Thx in advance. |

You have NOT the same problem
I am afraid there is a issue in the dutch translation. I cannot check every string in every translation - for this i have my translators. The original text is: Zitat: | No contacts on phone!
Transfer contacts from program to phone? |
Very sorry for this, i will fix the netherlands languagefile instantly to your suggestion. Did you make any backup or did you ever synced with a third app ? If not then i'm afraid the contacts are lost.
PS.: Guys - keep MyPhoneExplorer updated - this accident does not happen in 1.7 and later versions - even if you click "No". |

Nope, I thought about backing my contacts up with a third app...but I didn't...
Bad descission! Damn I guess I'll start sending e-mails...but I'm afraid I lost a lot of important contacts of whom I don't have any other contact information of...aarg!
But correctly translated:
No contacts on phone!
Transfer contacts from program to phone?
--> Geen contacten gevonden op GSM! Contacten van computer overzetten naar gsm?
But I still don't understand why MyPhoneExplorer (v1.6.6, so maybe it's fixed in newer version) doesn't have an cancel option... It wouldn't have been a problem if I had said Yes...but the translation made me think twice and take the '"safest" option; No, which wasn't the right one.
Edit: Aha... okay, I should have updated... damn! Okay, lesson(s) learned:
-make backups of your backups when important information
-update your software |

But nobody knows if windows or myphoneexplorer keeps a backup file somewhere? Damn... and I know that the information is still on my HD... written in binary code... is there a way to get it back? To read it straight of my HD? Maybe some kind of recovery software?
Ow damn, I'm really screwed... |

Zitat: | But nobody knows if windows or myphoneexplorer keeps a backup file somewhere? |
Thats not true - i know that MPE does NOT create automatical backups cause i am the developer of MyPhoneExplorer. The phone-data are maybe confidential and cause of this it would be not good if MPE creates backups and duplicates automatically.
I don't think you have a chance to get them back. The data are saved inCode: | %appdata%\MyPhoneExplorer\<userprofile>\Phonebook.dat |
If MyPhoneExplorer does write datafiles then the old file gets deleted and a new one with the same path is created. So theoretically there is a chance to get it back - in practise the most recovery-programs search for Headerflags which are common for JPEG-Pictures and Videofiles so i don't think that a recovery-program is able to recover the original Phonebook.dat. maybe important for you: The file is saved in vCard-Format (if fileencryption was NOT selected in the settings of MPE) |

Thank you for the info.
And I understand that it would be strange for your software to make automated backups without you telling the program to do so.
I'm running a couple of recovery programs now... I will let you know if i found something...this could take a while.
I still think that MyPhoneExplorer is an excellent application!
Edit: Wasn't able to find the file. |

You can view the dat-files of MPE with a normal texteditor like wordpad or notepad. |
