My Zone Alarm software alerts me that the following programs are attempting to access the internet each time I sync my Android phone. Why does the sync process have to access the internet? This is pretty disturbing!
myphoneexplorer.exe
adb.exe (multiple times) |

MyPhoneExplorer does not need access to Ingternet, but it needs access to the local network cause the communication to the phone is based on sockets. |

But that still doesn't answer the question: why is the internet firewall program flag alerting me when the sync process takes place? |

As FJ told you, thats because of the sync process design. It works with sockets, which is based on ports and if you're into firewall design, you would now, that internet based communication works using ports! |

I'm not an expert on firewall design. I'd just like to know why a program that is supposedly just syncing my Android phone to my computer has to access the internet to do so. It looks suspiciously like my personal information is being mined. |

We explained you now the reasons but it seems you do not understand them. MyPhoneExplorer does nothing which could break your privacy but its your decision to use it or not. |

I also use Zonealarm and it tells me when things are trying to access the internet. But please check the ip address that it is trying to access. If *local* it will say 127.0.0.1. If *remote* (i.e. trying to *phone home* or somewhere else) it will have an ip address something like 12.34.56.67.
If it gives the 127 address it is NOT trying to access the internet. And by the *internet* I mean the network outside of your computer/router. As has been explained, that's how the program works and you can safely tell Zonealarm to do this automatically. Then if MPE suddenly does want to access the wider internet then it will still pop up and ask you.
See here ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Localhost .... for a little more information than you probably want
HTH.
