Hi,
I've just did a thorough test on how it is working and where the issue occurs.
I noticed that birthday disappears when I modify anything of a contact (on the phone) and then save it. It saves the modification and removes the birthday. So, it seems it is not related to MPE.
So, to answer your question: no, birthday does not disappear when I set the photo in MPE (as it seems not to be related to it), but it also does not get to the phone.
I'm pretty sure that my phone supports contact photos, because when I moved to Android from Nokia I had the same way of syncing. I mean, from Outlook to the phone via OVI tools. And when I synced Android with another tool (probably PC Companion -- I can't remember now), contact photos got there from Outlook.
MPE is way better than anything else, so I'd like to use it for syncing.
So, birthday is ok, as it seems to be rather an OS issue on my phone (or I don't really understand why it removes the birthday when I modify for example a phone number of the contact)
Contact photos is the only remaining question for me.
Thanks a lot for your support! |

No. It seems something gets to the phone... but it is not the photo that I set.
The reason how I know that something 'seemingly' gets to the phone is that I can remove the icon after the sync, but it is not a real photo. Rather a rectangle filled with grey color.
Is there any size / resolution constrains? I'm just thinking what could be the reason for that. |

MyPhoneExplorer creates 96x96 jpeg images. Please save a image from a contact (where MPE did set the contact), upload it to the memorystick and try to view the picture on your phone with the gallery. Does this work ? |

How can I do that? I mean, when I select the contact photo, I couldn't save it to anywhere. There's no option for that. Any advise?
I also tried one thing. If I set a contact photo on the phone (select an uploaded photo from gallery and set it for the contact) then sync it with MPE, it does not even gets back to MPE. Rather that a black rectangle appears as a contact photo in MPE. |

Really strange. You can export a contact picture if you doubleclick a contact in MPE. There is a button to save the image |

I tried it. I set a photo for a test contact that never has a contact picture before. Then I synced with MPE and saved the picture from MPE. It saved a 96x96 pixels PNG image. It is a black background. I mean, the whole image is black.
It is also strange that if I try to open the PNG file with GIMP, is says that the file is corrupted. Windows can open is and that is where I see the black rectangle.
Do you think it is an issue with my phone? It has Android v2.1 (oroginal, no MODs, no root). |

FJ,
Do you have any idea why is this working in this way?
Thanks. |

You should be more patient. I cannot reply all new posts every day.
MyPhoneExplorer saves the images on phone as JPG and not as PNG. Does it work if you set your photos on the phone itself (also the transfer to MPE) ? |

If I set the photo on the phone itself any sync it with MPE a black colored rectangle appears as the contact photo.
If I try to save it from MPE, it saves a PNG file. If I change the extension from .png to .jpg it will still remain a 96x96 black rectangle when I open it.
Do you think Windows7 has anything to do with it? |

No, its not related to Win7. Can other third-party apps display the contact images ? |

To tell the truth, I don't use any other third party apps for that, because they messed up my contacts. MPE is the only one that is working properly.
Really. I tried other apps, but didn't like them.
If you advise any third party app to try, I'd do that, but I can't tell anything about them now. |

I really like this program for most things and have found answers to most of my problems on the forum so far. The one anomoly I have is how the birthdays show up in my contacts on my Motorola Photon (Android 2.3.4). They are correct in MPE on my computer, but in the phone they show up as one month earlier.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Marci |
