Firstly, many thanks for this great utility which I'm using with a Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.3. It's so good that I donated.
However, I have a small issue with birthdays. I'm not using Google Contacts or Calendar, just entries on the phone itself. I can add a birthday to individuals either in phone Contacts or in Thunderbird's Address Book and the contact details sync correctly in either direction. Once on the phone, Android adds the birthday to the calendar.
However, when syncing calendars the birthday entries all appear in the confirmation window and the preview entry for Thunderbird is often wrong, ie. the birth year is always 1971 and sometimes (not always) the date has been incremented by one day. For example:
John Doe
Entry in Phone: 19/05/1965
Entry in Thunderbird: 20/05/1971
So far I can't see any pattern to when the date is incremented.
Any ideas?
Thanks again. |

Just to add that in the sync confirmation window it's always the wrong Thunderbird entries that are selected by default - not the phone entries. |

to be honest, I have no clue why this is happening or if this can be fixed. But can you please post a debug log, so FJ can look into this? Maybe its best to mail the debug log to him, because your data should not be posted to everybody! |

Hi and thanks for your reply. What kind of debug log do you mean? I couldn't see anything in MPE or the Android app.
I know there's USB debugging but I'm using a wifi connection and in any case haven't seen where the log data resides.
Could you tell me exactly what type of log data would be needed and how to provide it please.
Thank you. |

Quote from the FAQ
| Zitat: | - How to create a Debug-Log?
This can be found in the MyPhoneExplorer in "File->Settings" click on "Show Log file"
or (if the MyPhoneExplorer crashed (note: reopen MPE deletes old Debug.log)):
Windows -> Start -> Run (or on Vista/Win 7 just type into the field):
%appdata%
Go to the folder "MyPhoneExplorer", open the file Debug.txt and post the content into your thread!

Please send the debug log to FJ: fj.wechselberger@gmx.at |

Thank you for spelling it out for me. I didn't think to look in the FAQ. |

Thanks to FJ for replying here and to my email.
This seems to have been an issue in Android at least since v2.0 until 2.2.
For now I am using this workaround:
I have installed the ThunderBirthday Thunderbird add-on which creates a birthday calendar in Lightning based on the birthdays in the Address Book which are synced correctly (unlike the birthday events in the Calendar). It means I now have two birthdays in Lightning because I don't know a way to filter out the ones synced from the Android Calendar (which are automatically derived from Android Contacts). But by using different colours I know which one to trust. I have set MPE not to sync the new birthdays calendar as the ones on the phone are currently already correct. |

I got around this in the end too.
It was easy to search the Lightning calendar for Birthday (or ". Birthday" to be 100% sure). These are the birthday events in Android calendar and I simply deleted them.
Then, on the next sync they all came up in the confirmation window with the options:
- delete from phone
- add to Thunderbird
- never sync in future
Selecting the last option should mean I'll never see them again. |
