MPE TBIRD PLUGIN WON'T INSTALL CORRECTLY

Love MPE - have used it for 6 months at home with Droid X2, Desktop PC Win7 and Tbird 6.0.2, using MPE 1.8.1

Got a new laptop at work, 32 bit Windows 7. Installed Tbird 6.0.2, then MPE 1.8.1. I connect by USB. Here's the problem:

the phone contacts AND calendar sync just fine with the MPE program.
But NEITHER contacts NOR calendar are sync'd with Thunderbird
when I look in Thunderbird, I see that NO MPE extension has been installed.
if I manually install the extension from "C:\Program Files\MyPhoneExplorer" , I get an error message: mpe COULD NOT BE INSTALLED BECAUSE IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THUNDERBIRD 6.0.2"
I manually installed another version of the mpe-addin.xpi from here:
https://www.pueschel.net/mpe/mpe-addin.xpi . The version says 2.0.7 for the addin. At least I do not get the "incompatible" message, and it looks like the addin installed - it shows up in the list in Tbird. But MPE still won't sync with Tbird.

Every time I try to sync with Tbird, I get an error message:
THE MPE EXTENSION IS EITHER NOT INSTALLED OR TOO OLD. INSTALL THE NEWEST PLUGIN NOW ?

I click OK. It times out, then I get the next error message:
LOADING ENTRIES FROM THUNDERBIRD FAILED!

Seems that I cannot get the addin for thunderbird to install correctly on this work laptop. Very strange, because the same setup works perfectly without errors at home on my PC.

can anyone give me a link to the latest version of the MPE addin.xpi file? Maybe that's all I need.

Hi bugmanmd,

welcome to the forums.

MPE 1.8.1 isn't compatible with Thunderbird 6.x. To resolve the issue please download the latest beta:

I ran the DebugUpdate.exe file, and now all is well. sync with Tbird 6.0.2 is perfect for contacts and calendar. I Really really appreciate your quick help! Very Happy

I'm still a bit puzzled why my setup at home is Tbird 6.0.2 with MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.1 - the version downloaded from the main FJSoft web page.--- and everything is fine. No problems syncing at all. But on my work computer, these same installation files would not work.

Another question -
I didn't install the apk file, and all seems to be well without having used it. Should I install that file on my phone anyway?

The MPE Client (mpeclient.apk) usually is installed automatically by MyPhoneExplorer if you connect the phone via USB.
