calendar records with +1 AND -1 hour

Beitrag von FJG »

Hello,

As a registered user, I've been using MPE on Windows 10 and Android Pixel 7 for years with great satisfaction.

I sync several times a day. My calendar files are the local outlook.pst file on Windows side and a dedicated calendar app on Android side.

Yesterday, I encountered a new problem:

1) During the first sync, MPE added duplicates to 90% of the entries, with an extra hour start time.
This problem occurs once or twice a year, and the next sync restores the situation.

2) During the second sync, a few hours later, the duplicate entries persist, AND MPE modifies the original entries by subtracting an hour.

My calendar is therefore completely disorganized: no entry is at the correct time, and there are two entries, one with an hour less and the other with an hour more.

Two html logbooks show perfectly the phenomenon. Clear and full with nice colours :-).

Should anyone has a suggestion for fixing the issue and retrieve the calendar before sync, by chance ?

My last Windows 10 backup was 10 days old, and if I can save myself hours of trouble restoring it, I would be delighted.

Best regards

Your description suggests that you deactivated the confirmation window during syncing?!
You should definitely reactivate it to prevent this from happening again!
I'm assuming that the time zone is correctly set on both your PC and your phone?!
This problem isn't entirely new, and the cause is usually related to Outlook and the switch between summer and winter time.
In my opinion, the only way to fix it is to correct all appointments in MPE, delete all appointments in Outlook, and force a sync between your phone and Outlook.
Which calendars are enable on your phone? => MPE Client => Settings => Calendars to sync ?

Hello Icke,

Thank you for taking the time to reply so quickly and kindly.
Your diagnosis matches my hypothesis.

Here are my comments, in case they might be helpful to others experiencing the same problem:

- You're right, the default behavior is related to the daylight saving time change. The problem occurs too close to this period for not being related.

- The Android calendar is the open-source Etar Project, and I noticed today's patch mentioning the resolution of a time zone issue. I haven't looked into it further, but it's another clue that strengthens your hypothesis.

- I always enable the confirmation window during synchronization. But, guess what?
Since there have been a few rare instances where there's been a significant change to the records, followed by a counter-change shortly after, I let my guard down. Add to that a tiring week, and the conditions ripe for disaster finally got the better of my vigilance. User is (almost) always the problem... :-)

- The time zone is correctly set on both my PC and my phone.

- The "Internal Calendar" option is enabled on my phone, and synchronization is bidirectional.

Using MPE to manually correct the issue is an excellent idea; I wouldn't have thought of it without you. Your expertise saves me time by directly pointing me in the right direction without any disastrous trial and error.

Thanks again for your invaluable help, and long live MPE!

Best regards,
